Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo has lost the core market this generation

I am not sure if there are a lot of retarded people here, but until the Wii; Nintendo aimed it's products solely at children; it was the parents who kept the market afloat.

People who call themselves "core" or "hardcore" are just nerds being pretentious; as usual.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I know lots of hardcore gamers that have a Wii ... they just happen to own a 360 or PS3 as well, but almost everyone I know has a Wii regardless of demographic.

When Nintendo is ready to release a higher-end version of the Wii with next-gen processing power and whatever new control gizmo they come up with -- I think the audience will be there and so will the third party community (this time from day 1).

With the Wii, Nintendo really had to lay a lot of the infastructure, I see Wii 2 as being the point where the can really grow their "city". With the current Wii, I just think it's too much to ask Nintendo to get every single audience.

In a lot of ways I think the current Wii is basically a test run for Wii 2. I suspect Wii 2 will be a console that more hardcore gamers are pleased with, and that some of them may even opt to christen as their primary console of choice next time out.

Any way you slice it, Nintendo is in a much better position now than at any point during the GameCube days.

I will tentatively agree in that Nintendo could have captured the best of both worlds, if they wanted. Getting one audience does not preclude the other, and so on. And they certainly don't have the internal development capacity that they should. That said, it is a fool's errand to piss money away to appease a relatively small group of people, no-one gains anything, except that already-spoiled segment of the market

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Not to be rude or anything but.......
Come back to this thread at the end of 2010 ... and if you still think this way you should just really shut up and sell your Wii or something.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Very true, and often forgotten (on the internet).

Most people who complain about Nintendo don't even know what Nintendo was always about. Nintendo didn't do anything different this generation. They just added the wii products for the adults. Other then that, they are the same - as always.

Nintendo was always family-orientated, so the parents could buy their system with confidence. That makes a lot of sense since the people with the most time to play games are children. And the budget parents spend on their children has only increased.

Nintendo is very smart in their choice of markets. A lot smarter then the competition - certainly this generation.

isn't this thread a tad obvious?

The wii doesn't have any good third party games which is what bothers me most. If you don't want to play as a plumber rescuing a princess then that really limits your options. Sure wii fans could name a couple good games here and there, but the HD consoles is where its at for good games. If you want to play GTA, Modern Warfare, Halo, Uncharted, Killzone, Bioshock, Orange Box, etc. you have to get an HD console.

I'll tell you right now I'm not buying a nintendo console thats based on motion controls and other gimmicks. Yes that's right gimmicks. I'm not saying that to diss the wii, that's just what they are. And same with NATAL and the PS Wand. I'm not a fan of motion controls at all.

I agree with Finnbar on this subject. I bought the Wii mostly for the first party games that are almost always awesome. I've been playing these franchises for years (Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc..) and still love them. I can only play them on the Wii so I bought it. So far I have been pleased with what I've seen. I would agree that I'd like to see more, but I have plenty of things to do in life other than gaming so I think I'm okay.

I was really big into PC gaming from 1999-2006 so I never really got into the Playstation, PS2 or XBox. Because of this, there are no games there that really draw me in. I grew up with Nintendo and still enjoy the franchises. Pretty much any game that I've found to really like on any other system I can either get on Nintendo as well or the PC. Left 4 Dead is the only game on the 360 that I found to like so far and I just bought it for the PC instead of shelling out the cash for a 360.

I have found some other games on the Wii that are totally awesome (Muramasa and Madworld to name two) but do feel that the Wii is lacking as a gaming platform when compared to the 360 and PS3, at least when comparing what they can do and the general content. I am sick of all of the crap that gets released on the Wii. Nintendo has a seal of quality that they took seriously for years and I always respected that. It is rapidly becoming a joke.

I feel, and I could be wrong, that the majority of the "blockbuster" titles on the 360 and, to a lesser extent, the PS3 are first person shooters and some third person stuff. FPS games started on the PC and that is where they belong. I used to play Goldeneye on the N64 and absolutely loved it. Then I discovered Quake, Quake II, and (most imporant to me..) Quake III on the PC and it was over. I got into the hardcore Quake III community playing with the likes of ZeRo4, Fatal1ty and LeXeR and FPS gaming changed.

Once I started playing FPS games like that with the control you get with a mouse and keyboard analog sticks became an oversized joke. You just cannot do with analog sticks what you can with a mouse. There's no going back. Some people can probably go back and forth but I cannot. I know that I can play them with analog sticks but deep down inside I know that I can tear the game up with a mouse and cannot make myself suffer through the lack of control with the sticks. At this point I feel that if you want FPS, get a PC. I don't get into the 360 and the PS3 because their "bread and butter" games are just superior on PC. Not that all of the titles are available on PC but FPS is FPS. It's more a matter of finding the true gems. Like Q3.

Oh come on, if you knew anything about the Orange Box, you'd realise how horrible the console versions are compared to the superior PC version. xP

It is a Wii Sports Machine, nothing else :)
