The porn industry has already moved to digital distribution. That should be a telling sign. The porn industry has always been ahead of the adoption curve for video formats.

The porn industry probably moved to digital distribution because of the anonymity of the internet, most people are embarrased to go into a store and buy porn, let alone the whole effort of going to get one is hard to justify for what you get in return.

Yup, and the same thing happened in the early 1980's. People were too embarrassed to go to porn theaters. Instead they bought VCRs and watched them at home. That accelerated the growth of the video industry.

Same thing is happening today except with digital distribution.

Digital Distribution is why Porn won't help Blu-Ray much. I don't know anyone that's really hankering for some 1080p porn anyway.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Whatever, dude! The main fact remains the same, though. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN BLU-RAY 4 BEST QUALITY RIGHT NOW, physical format or not!, and there's a lot of people out there willing 2 pay a little more 4 it, so it's more covenient, more affordable than it was 3 years ago ( and it will only get cheaper), and very quickly gaining popularity too!

Don't fool yourself, downloadable content 4 general purposes might b da future (or might not), but IT IS NOT THE NEAR OR IMMEDIATE FUTURE!

Besides, this service won't allow the 360 to sell around a billion consoles like most Microsoft fanboys would like 2 believe. Shit! that broken down console is on its way down already! 4 when this gains enough popularity, the 360 will b long gone amd forgotten, like it deserves.

Has anyone here actually used the service yet? What size are the downloads and what kind of download times are people looking at?

Time Warner cable claims we are going to run into serious bandwidth problem in the near future as more and more people are watching tv shows, You-tube videos, movies online. Thus as demand increases faster than supply equals paying a lot more for bandwidth in the future. TWC could be just blowing smoke then again maybe they're  right.

Cool, but for now I will stick to physical formats. Why bother having to download the movies, and being forced to watch them on certain platforms (360/Zune)?

In physical format you can take them with you to watch them in every DVD/Blu-Ray player you find, and even rip it into your PC (well, DVD at least), to be later watched in it, or in a PSP, iPod, Zune, MP4 player... you can even take them with you on a USB flash drive.

If M$ allow you to extract the movies from the 360/Zune so you could do any of this, I'll go digital, meanwhile, I will just stay away from that. I like messing around with my media.

Sure, someday digital will take over, but while publishers still supports physical, they make profit from it, and the customers are still willing to buy discs, not counting bandwidth and download caps from ISP's, physical is king.

That's right, just one "d"

In b4 "it's addict"

Time Warner is full of crap. They are just so cheap they don't want to upgrade there system to the latest standard.

WTF is this shit?

My friend rented Tremors in HD,720P and it was like 4 gigs,so 1080p will be like 6-8 gigs.

Oh here is another thing,if you buy the movie, and you wanna watch you can just stream it,or just dowload the hole thing.

I believe a 2 hour DVD movie (in 480p)  takes somewhere around 5-6 GB. As you pointed out you can have 720p in 4 GB and even a 1080p in 3 GB if you like. But just like a picture the more information it has (memory it uses) the better the picture will be. Blu-ray does not automaticly mean HD.  What makes Blu-ray special is it uses a small laser so it can store/write more information on one disc.  Thus you can have a movie with up to 25 GB/50GB.

From the way I  understand this: If  you can watch something  in two formats uses the same amount of memory/ bandwidth  (4gb /2hrs for example) one at 480p another at 1080p. When the picture stays pretty close fixed (like watching Jeopardy) then the 1080p format will look better than 480p. But if the picture is constantly moving (Like watching any sports) the 480p will look better than 1080p. When it comes down to it a moving picture needs more  information a lot faster than a still picture.

I think your confusing 1080i with 1080p.  1080i, or any resolution with i, is interlaced.  Which means the screen is divided into bars horizontally, even and odd numbered.  Only one set of bars is displayed at a time, say even first.  Then it is switched to where only the odd will be displayed.  However, this switching happens so fast it appears as one image to the human eye.  This interlacing has a disadvantage, as moving objects will produce a slight double image, or ghosting.

p, or pregessive, displays the full image at all times, resulting in higher clearity and no ghost image.
