It might just be Wal-Mart's deal with the term "rollback".
I don't doubt there will be something coming up though. I just hope they replace the 250 dollar price point with colors and bundles and then cut the price of the standard wii to 200!

Yeah and the 11 million people that bought Animal Crossing for DS, they bought the ......... never mind. I don't know why people are so sure that everybody that bought the DS game'll bought the Wii game.

I do say that City Folk has shown us that there is a chance that NSMBWii will fizzle (not fizzle, but fail to light the console sales aflame, much as City Folk itself did), because users have different values for console games than for handheld games, but if this game does half of what the original NSMB did, it will be one of the top-selling games released in this year (though it won't get those sales all at once) |
Different values for console games than handheld games. Thats exactly the point of what i was saying.
Im not diminishing the original New Super Mario Bros in any way: its an amazing game. I would love to play it on a big screen too.
But me (and a lot of you guys) im a game enthusiast: i read about it, talk about it (even if only online), i know the dates of major releases of the year and i know a good game when i see one, no matter what it looks like on the outside...
Regular people dont work that way.
They have a set of thoughts about gaming, unique and hard to change, that are nothing like our own thoughts.
New Super Mario Bros wont move a single new Wii unit. It will sell, but not move new units.
(you know what kind of software WILL move new units? Stuff that take the thrills from the movies, mix it up with motion controls (for a more intuitive gameplay and novelty factor), and serve it up in a nice package
Like the horror games that are coming up...
Or anything that puts WiiMotion Plus in an "action movie" setting)

I'll wait and see what comes of this, but I'm a bit suspicious of this news, it seems unlikely, the only way I could see a change in price is if they remove Wii Sports from the package, but that seems unusual, as bundling Wii sports with Wii has been a success, although if they were to offer a different bundle, perhaps NSMB Wii with the Wii for $250 or the wii seperately for $199 that might work, but still this seems to be just a rumor, but it'll be interesting to see what happens
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
Sounds questionable to me.
As for NSMB Wii, I think there is a damn good chance it outsells Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm suspicious too: Nintendo deciding a cut based on Summer+crisis slump and a single week's sales, what's more PS3 Slim launch one, looks quite amateurish, way below market leader's business sense.
Given how long Slim's launch and price cut have been expected, it's likely Nintendo prepared in advance a possible cut if they really think is necessary, to avoid the uncomfortable situation to have to rush it, but they won't decide it based on Slim and Elite sales performance immediately after launch and price cut.
I see no validity in this. There is no link to the add in question, it just says it's "rolling back." Second, it's not in Nintendo's best interest to do so.

A lot of expectations seem to be pegged to "hope" more than anything else.
Make no mistake; the game will sell millions of copies. It just won't sell millions of consoles.
While not a huge as a $100 price drop off the PS3, a $199 price on the Wii would take it to "mass market pricing" in addition to having the added perceived value in the minds of consumers as a bargain/better deal.
Three years at the same price doesn't exactly inspire a sense of urgency for the general consumer to suddenly buy the same console, even with new best selling titles on the way.
It's not like Mario Galaxy hasn't been available for over a year, or the Wii Fit for over a year, or even Wii Sports Resort/Motion Plus for several months now.
I think it's what they will do.

I see.
Also, this cold just as easily be Wal-Mart trying to sell it for less, not Nintendo cutting the price.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
