So, does anyone really think having 1 commercial instead of 6 commercials is a good thing?
I certainly do not.

XBox 360 is owned by Microsoft an American company and it is no surprise that the media in America would favour the XBox 360 over the PS3 a foreign product. Microsoft has a say in what goes in regards to marketing in America.
Microsoft spend a lot more money in marketing the XBox 360 in America than what Sony spends on marketing the PS3 in America. The XBox 360 has a stronger market share in America than the PS3 and it will try to hold its sales lead over the PS3 in America.

yeah. It goes like this.
MSFT: Why, i say, ill pay you for 6 commercials and you should air 6 commercials.
NBC: Why, I say, okay you pay us for 6 commercials, we will air 6 commercials.
MSFT: Why, i say.
haha I agree nathan.
I thought of every possible conceivable way that it could be a positive. As a psych major with both real life and college experience in marketing and business, I've argued many points in these forums about marketing.
The only things I can think of is:
a) price drop was last week.
b) madden was released more than two weeks ago
Other than that, having more commercials is better than less, in most cases. This would be one of those cases. On top of that, it was a football season opener, a lot of people watch the games together, thereby expanding the audience dramatically, and the commercial was for a football game, and it i the beginning of the season.
Ouch.
The only real negative I can see is that the return on those commercials might not have been cost effective. Selling 100k copies will net about 700k$ from software fees. Do they make money on hardware now? If not, it could be a bigger loss. Also, traditionally, ps3 sells more sports games than 360 does.
EDIT: well I guess not Madden, though. traditionally 360 has sold more than ps3.

If that's your attempt at sarcasm, it wasn't successful. I was actually backing up your post. Pay attention.... |
I was channeling the spirit of blackops actually. Calm down...sheesh!

I watched the NFL Season Opener tonight. It's a huge event that more than likely had the most viewers of any sporting event in America for a long time.
I saw 3 seperate xbox360 ads in the first 20 minutes of the pre-game show. NFL Madden Commercials with "Xbox360 Elite now $100 off" and the 360 logo at the end of every commercial. another 2-3 xbox360 ads for the remainder of the game. (Need for Speed, Rockband Beatles)
There was only 1 PS3 commercial during the entire game and it was during the middle of the first quarter. It's a great commercial but there's no wonder why PS3 still has the stigma of having no games amongst casuals.

Nobody told you, it's Baseball season!
Microsoft is marketing the 360 in America better than SONY is marketing the PS3 in America??
STOP THE PRESS!!!
But seriously... come one people... come on...
4 ≈ One

That would be........... Home console: Nintendo Wii Handheld: Nintendo DS |

Those are the real consoles of choice in America, you can argue about the head start, the year by year, the overall sales, the price cuts, but Wii started later than all, won year by year and passed both overall without a price cut...
