No one said anything about saving the Wii, plus you made a terribly bad joke.

I apologise.

Is this thread for real? All you hear about gaming on mainstream TV here in the US is about the wii. I think not. PS3 and 360 just have price drops

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I've heard analysts say that the recession is hurting the Wii more because they rely mainly on a casual market. Casual gamers are less likely to spend money on games in a weak economy. It seems like a reasonable explanation.

And of course the hardcore audience is a bit disgusted with Nintendo, as they should be.

Now, of course, they are getting pricing pressure from Sony and Microsoft. Plus they didn't release any first-party games within the first half of the year. Punch-out!! was their biggest release and it underperformed. Wii Music and Animal Crossing also underperformed last fall.

So all these things add up and that's what were seeing as of now. Nintendo is still hoping that WSR and NSMBWii will push hardware sales up this holiday season, and it might happen.

Nintendo definitely has some options, and they will likely announce something (price cut, bundles, and/or colors, etc.) at the Fall conference in October.

Nintendo sales are still good in absolute, although small compared to its best performance, but it really doesn't need to react yet, because sales immediately after competitors' price cuts don't give yet reliable indications on long term trends, and there is another fact: PS3 is still third, so, unless XB360 starts constantly outselling Wii, it is in Nintendo's best interest to avoid fighting PS3 growth until it's going to reach XB360, to keep on having 2nd and 3rd that fight each other with little moves and resources left to attack Wii's 1st place. As long as the gap between Wii and the 2nd widens, it's all right for Ninty.

People like to say it's all right but they forget that they have made projections and estimated 26 million Wii's sold by the end of the FY in March 2010. They will be 4 million down by next week, so how could they be alright? Shouldn't they be trying to avoid Wii losing the momentum by taking drastic actions instead of just "enjoying life" like some imply?

It's true, they are selling more than the competition and making a lot of money, but how do they plan on reaching those projections and what excuse could be given out to investors, who see the other systems are performing positively YoY (PS3 will most certainly be up YoY before the holidays) and Wii will be the only one being down and by a wide margin?

Just don't go ahead and say "they are doing just fine" or "they are drowning in money haha lol roflelomzmg" because it takes all the validity out of your post.

Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Even if PS3 and 360 are up yoy, they will still be down in revenue. Nintendo is the only company to ever sustain this high of sales without ever having a price cut.

I don't know if Nintendo will meet it's projections or not, they could have a much larger December this year than last year (last years December went down from November, when historically they have doubled November sales).

@phant: If we go by trends then seeing that Wii is down about 25% YoY, Holiday sales will be down too.

Yes but Wii was supply constrained in December of last year, which historically sees double the November sales. If Wii is down 25% in November, It could be up 50% in December yoy.

270,000 people buying a system I wouldn't call giving up haha. Interesting enough, NPD says it is still on similar levels of the PS2 so that can't be too bad.

I mean as I've always said this year has seen sales down across the board. Tie that in with WSR being the first big release of the year for Wii and loads of competitive movements by Sony and MS and actually you could see these sales as quite decent.

I mean it has fallen a lot but it's not like the sales are bad.

Nope, up 50% would mean the Wii is selling at the same levels from last year.
