That's the thing, I highly doubt it. It probably comes after the colonizatoin period, so it'd be set i say WWI or WWII or just modern times, if they follow the AOE sequels.

I'm confused, Age of Empires is a RTS, and it certainly is not the king. If a new AoE is released in the traditional RTS style, it will be completely overlooked because Starcraft 2 is releasing very soon (for the last few years).

I would buy Natal to play this game. Assuming of course that Natal is able to redefine the RTS console experience, and there is no PC version, and some of the remnants of Ensemble are working on it.

AOEII was AMAZIng. AoM is often overlooked, but still extremely good. AoEIII was only good. I think we can all agree a ancient/medieval setting would be best.
