The orginal team is working on it so I'm willing to bet it is going to be something special...

Well NO. Most of the stuff has left RaRe long time ago, so  it not same team, but they try to hype it byt saying "O it is same team that worked on N64 games", well no it is not!

And how many of you that are attacking Rare actually PLAYED Kameo or Viva Pinata?

Just wondering.

That is typical fanboyish defensive strategy "how many of you have actually played ..... game?". Well at least some of them have.

Kameo was interesting game, very very good launch title but it was not really for kids, more for adults. Same with Viva Pinata, it looks so kiddy(which is good for this type of game) but it is WAY TO HARD for kids to play. It is very popular among 25+years old gamers, which is very bizarre.

The thing with Rathet  Clank games and why is it so successful is because it is  targeted for both kids and adults. Just like Pixar movies. Check latest 1UP show episode, they really explain R&C game so well and why is it so good and popular.

I expect a lot from that game and I trust Rare that they can do it again. I mean, they have not released a platformer since they left Nintendo; their last platformer was Banjo-Tooie, and their track record with platformers is great.

If I see how good Free Radical is at making First-Person Shooters, it makes me think that the great FPS-minds probably left Rare, but it could very well be that the great platformer-minds still are working there.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

Viva Piñata and Kameo where pretty fun, but let's be honest, compared to there Nintendo 64 works it's just nothing and we just have to look at the ratings.

Rare is still a good devoloper, but anyone who thinks that they are still among the best is just crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft decides to sell them to EA or Activision.

The ratings are misleading. It is practically pointless to compare ratings between generations. A 90% two generations ago is not comparable to a 90% today.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that Rare's close relationship to Nintendo back in the day put them in close contact with Myiamoto; Rare's excellent attention to detail combined with Myiamoto's ability to create new and inovative gameplay elements merged together to make several great games.

I thought Rare was still very good late in the N64's life but there seemed to be something off ...

Unfortunately for Rare, Microsoft has no one that can come close to matching Myiamoto and thus Rare's games (although still well crafted) lose something which takes away the fun ...

Microsoft gave over 300$ million for RaRe, which is WAY to much for a studio that lives on old merits. So even if they decided to sell them (never will happened) they will just loose money, because no one will give them even same amount.

Perhaps you are right, but I can give you another example.

Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, Goldeney 007 and Perfect Dark where among the best games of that generation.

Would you say that about Viva Piñata, Kameo Elements of power, Starfox Adventures and Perfect Dark zero?

Again, Rare shows signs of improvement. Their worst days were easily those spent on the original Xbox, releasing two very disappointing titles that were a mere shadow of the company's former general quality. Kameo and PDZ went through a protracted and troubled dev process, and ultimately did not meet expectations. Viva Pinata however, which surely must have been built from the "ground up" for the 360, showed a marked improvement in polish and quality over these titles. Hence, they may now have found their footing and will show us something good. Who knows?

@makingmusic476

You actually had to find every single Tribal before you could finish the game, too. Still, when was the last time a third-person shooter took you 35-40 (enjoyable) hours to finish?

Also, next-gen Blast Corps, anyone?

Hates Nomura.

No I personally wouldn't. However that is not the same as saying that their games released this generation are substantially worse than those released in previous generations. It could for an example just be an argument that the quality of games this generation are greater than that of previous generations (I am not saying it is but it showcases the flaw in your argument; all generations are not created equal.).

There is no objective way to compare game ratings between consoles and over time. End of story. Once you acknowledge that then you are simply left with purely subjective opinion. Therefore the comparison or ratings is undeniably misleading and of not practical value.
