Forums - Gaming - Killzone 2 is the most sold HD FPS?

It would be nice not to ignore some less hyped shooters, such as Bioshock and Left 4 Dead. Also, forgetting PC games is unforgivable (though ignoring them wouldn't be so quite as much).

well maybe, but I think things may change when ODST comes out I guess.

ODST will run @ same 640p like halo3.......

LOL Resistance Fall of man best selling "HD" FPS!!!!?

Yeah it seems so. I've read somewhere that Half Life 2 sold about 10 million copies for the Pc version but I have no clue whether it is HD or not.

...Pretty much every 3D PC game is HD if you have a PC powerful enough. And it doesn't take much to run older games in HD or even FullHD or more. I've been running the first Half-Life at 1680x1050, the limiting factor being my monitor. (And it's nice to keep in mind that even the first Half-Life sold more than most console games, definitely including Killzone 2) Nowadays, the minimum resolution for PC games is probably something like 800x600, whereas 1280x1024 is pretty common (720p is 1280x720 by the way). Also, anything that's at least 720p can be considered HD to me.

COD4 and W@W both run in 1080p not 600

/facepalm

We're talking native resolutions here, not (up)scaled. Did you know that Wolfenstein 3D runs at 2560x2048, and that's even more than FullHD?

upscaled?

This message was a response to a guy claming he was running CS at 1600x1200. Anyway, it's not upscaled. It may not be originally meant to be rendered at 1600x1200 but it's definitely a native resolution. It just happens to look ugly because everything else is pretty undetailed (textures, maps, etc.). But it's still a native resolution.

Every time there's a thread about a game's resolution, it comes down to people telling it's 720p or 1080p or something else it says on the box. People, please try to understand that an upscaled resolution is not the same thing as a native resolution. A native resolution is a resolution at which the game is actually rendered and then possibly upscaled to some other resolution, like 720p.

@ zkuq

One thing is upscaling.
Another thing is native HD graphics in a game.

I can upscale the GBA emulator to 1920x1200, that turns chu chu rocket into an HD game?

Anything below 720P is ENHANCED DEFINITION!

Enhanced definition is 480p, to the best of my knowledge.

True. 576p for PAL regions.

Fun fact:

"In other countries the outlook may be different. For example, in Australia the 576p digital TV system is officially recognized as high definition.[2]"

This is incorrect... the term "enhanced definition" was created to describe digital TVs that can run at 480p instead of 480i.  720p and 1080i/p refer to high-definition standards that have been established to create conformity in the HDTV/HD-broadcasting industries.  The thread title would have more accurately been written "Killzone 2 is the most sold FPS that runs at a STANDARD HD resolution?", or "Killzone 2 is the most sold FPS that runs at a TRUE HD resolution?".  But you can't accurately state that anything over 480p is enhanced definition, or that it isn't a non-standard HD resolution.

Here are several links in case you doubt what I'm saying:

Much of Killzone 2 is rendered at 720p, but there are several aspects of the graphics, such as particle effects, which are rendered at a lower resolution and then upscaled.  This is confirmed here:

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1283186&postcount=2

So, if you want to get REALLY picky about what constitutes an HD game, then Killzone 2 doesn't really cut the mustard either.  Remember, what goes around, comes around.

Basicly every PC Shooter, which released by 2002 and later, that sold more than Killzone or Resistence proves you wrong.

And WTF Upscaling? A PC game don't create graphics and then let the user decide the scale of them. Setting up resolution in a game is indeed setting up the output resolution for your graphic card.

Oh and btw your emulator thingy is not upscalling of the output but of the textures to fit the screen size(not resolution). Which is equivalent to upscalling if you look at 2d graphics. But there is no upscalling of 3d graphics b/c they are calculated and rendered in your chosen resolution.

This is prooven if u look at emulated ps2 or n64 games. The polygon structure is very sharp but the textures are "upscaled". Then u have to consider that these textures are sometimes in a much bigger resolution than needed if they are not orthoganal to the viewpoint. If thats the case you absolutely increase the visual quality of the game with an emulator. Examples are emulated SSMB and MP3 on dolphin emulator.

I'm not sure how great Quake 3 sales are, but even this old game supported 1600x1200 resolution and through custom regestry entries you could make it full HD wide screen or even more.

@ the 3 killzone 2 haters

It doesn't make me happy, I don't even have a PS3 and I don't like the game at all.

I'm just looking for the most sold HD FPS, if you guys don't know you are such a cute ones for bothering yourselves with what makes me happy and whatnot =)

Well there's practically every PC FPS and console FPS like Bioshock, Rainbow Six: Vegas 1+2 (I'm fairly sure both of them), maybe Left 4 Dead, and a few others.  I'd recommend doing some research on here before posting on here asking others to do it for you, sorry to be harsh but this can be done simply at the game index.

Thou shalt not steal the content of my posts !

I guess I'm missing something obvious here but isn't Modern Warfare high def since it says it runs at 1080p on the back of the box?

Rainbow Six Vegas also goes to 1080p....That ended fast...

The back of boxes are full of crap when it comes to that, same for install sizes.

is the box wrong then? I'm not quite following. I guess I'm a bit slow when it comes to technical stuff.
