wasn't excitebike user generated content?
what's wrong with it?

Nyet!

As I wrote to Words of Wisdom (and can understand why you skipped over the mega-post) he sees a distinction between user-generated content and mere level editors: latter good, former bad.

Nintendo seems to be doing just fine.

i see.
I'm a little confused as to what user generated content is then.

Oh i see, he means stuff like drawing games and stuff like that where the input, is generating your own experience.
I guess that's not like LBP then right? To me it sounds more like LBP is a level editor.

Personally, I would agree. I'm not sure he does: the emphasis of the game is definitely on the "make your own levels" part, rather than on what comes out of the box, which is why I suspect he'd put it in the former category. I could be wrong about his opinion, though. Having played it, I know there's actually plenty of content already there, so I'd say it's more of a full-game with a robust level editor myself.

He has said in the past that he isn't talking about level editors, map editors.

His analogy was going to your favorite restaurant and the chef giving you his cookbook instead of your favourite meal.

I happen to think he's right.

I mean, yeah I can agree that those games aren't very fun....for me.
But I don't see how this can negatively affect their image... i guess.

I do see a lot of problems with the minigame formula, and rhythm based gaming, but I don't know, that's the only thing I see as affecting nintendos image.

After reading it, what he is saying is that professionals should make the content, not the users. I agree for the most part.

However, I also think he is trying to make a big deal about very little. He complains about Wii Music, and

"...Flip Book Studio, the new WarioWare DS where you ‘make’ your own levels, school girl fashion shopping software, and some other software I cannot remember."
Those are not exactly big, important projects. A DSiWare game, a DS game, and two things so unimportant that Malstrom himself can't even remember the name.

I kinda agree with Malstrom here. When I bought Blast Works for $40 when it 1st came out, I had somewhat high hopes for it. Unfortunately though, I was quite dissapointed how the editor was the majority of the focus, yet the Campaign & Arcade modes just seem like an afterthought. I'm fine with the editor being the main focus, but at least don't make the arcade & campaign modes seem like an afterthought.

So Malstrom has a problem with a game like LittleBigPlanet?

Yes, and it's not only restricted to it focusing on user generated content. It's also a fourth rate platformer.

Good thing I don't agree with Malstrom then because both me and my girlfriend both agree that it is easily one of the best games released this gen.

I also don't know whether to trust what you say or not. You had me laughing at the "fourth rate" joke however. Good stuff.
