i bought a spare phat ps3 today, cause i love its look. hates with a passion the ps3 slim look.

I don't get the people complaining about the PS3's loud fan. Mine is completely silent 90% of the time.

Mine is quite loud for some reason.

So really, after I decided to buy this today, I thought that the phat was just the right choice for me. When the PS2 slim came out, and the PSP slim, and the DS slim, there were problems with them, like dead pixils, overheating, cracked hingest, bad screens, ect, and those all got ironed out in subsequent versions. However, the phat has been perfected over many years, and is in what is very likely its final build. It has proven dependability, and since the slim has no mechanical additions, BC could be introduced just as easily in a phat or slim. I think the smartest choice is to go with the phat, if this is your first PS3, unless you're buying it for prestige. The slim doesn't have any advantages, and it will very likely initially NOT have the dependability the 80gb PS3 is known for. Why not go phat again, like me, and skip the slim until a few years when it's reached its height in technology and structure? Let somebody else beta test the sucker, I says. |
Why would i buy a phat? It just a reminder of what a miserable console that thing was.

Yep. IF I were to buy a PS3 at the $300 price, it would be the phat.
The size difference, imo, is crap. Its going to take up essentially the same footprint as the phat, there are no feature differences beyond a HDD that you would mostly likely replace for a better one anyways, AND the phat does look way better.

Subjective. I never liked the domed look. Frankly speaking all the consoles are better left hidden behind cabinet doors.

Only if you want to be laughed at. Should be replaced by, if you have BC you can laugh at those poor schlub Slim owners.

Sony is not MS. They will never allow 50%+ longstanding failure rates.

The PS3 with BC could be considered the pinnacle of PS3 tech. Not the rest of the PS3 Phats. The PS3 slim has better tech than non-BC PS3s, period. Thats why they can slim it down AND have a slightly faster CELL chip.

45nm CELL. ~30% more energy efficient. ~30% smaller. Better hard drive swap tray.

Too early to tell whether its any different. Part of the reason PS3 Phat has such a good BR player is because of the hard drive (for firmware updates). Which is the same for the PS3 Slim. I would bet it will be exactly the same in terms of quality.

OP: Unique way to admit that you decided the PS3 at $299 is so worthwhile that you bought it within a couple of days!
This is going to happen a lot.
If somebody wants to give me $840.00 I'll buy a Phat 60 gb with bc off of ebay.
