Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's outside developer support...

It is a very real possibility that developer attitudes could have been shaped over the the years in a negative light towards Nintendo.

Then why do they support the DS?

Companies like money, they didn't know how to make money with the Wii and they still don't know. Of course some people in the development community don't like the Wii, but that's because of what it's not. You're implying something that is really quite imaginary.

Most game developers love Nintendo and are developers because of them. And most business men in the third party world would love to love Nintendo, and they do love Nintendo. They simply haven't figured the Wii out.

Just because you don't agree doesn't mean it is imaginary.

I don't disagree with you completely, I just don't think it had that much to do with their history anymore. Third parties had their agendas, they were going to move into the HD era and considered the Wii as a secondary option. And they carried out that agenda without considering the possibility of the Wii turning out market leader, and they still don't really know what to do with it. Maybe some people are bitter that their agenda wasn't entirely successful, and blame the Wii for it, but it's a generalization to think that all of Nintendo's problems with third parties today are related to even that. The thing that most influences it, I believe, is how differently the Wii is doing business.

And quite frankly, if there is any continuation that you see that might be related to Nintendo's history, it's probably that they've always pioneered in some fashion. Third parties love a very predictable status quo and tend to align with it which is understandable, but Nintendo doesn't do that.

I apologize if you were offended by the "imagination" comment.

Some really had a bad experience, like Id software. Even though they do not admit it, they hold a grudge againt Nintendo (I don't think Carmack does though).

Even though Nintendo Changed, some still hold it

Nintendo wouldn't let ID put Super Mario Bros on computers.

In retrospect, that was an excellent idea, because now people have to pay 500 Wii points for it on the Virtual Console. It would've been heavily pirated as well. I can't really blame Nintendo for that.

However, during tat time, I don't see how they wouldn't let iD do that, but let Philips release horrible Zelda games on the CD-i.

^ I don't blame Nintendo for that either, it would have undermined the NES.

And I don't think anyone saw the CD-i games coming, not even Nintendo. Well, at least they are excellent material for some funny youtube parodies.

The censorship on Wolfestein and Doom for the SNES and some limitations Nintendo had back in the day.... That's what I heard anyway

Nintendo sure did piss off a lot of developers back in the day.
