Forums - Gaming Discussion - GT5 set to outsell Halo3, becoming the best selling HD game

I don't think so.
it is impressive that a "demo" sold that much and even more than GT4 Prologue, BUT there is a much wider time span between GT5P and GT5 than it was back then with GT4P and GT4. (there also wasn't a NA release for GT4P)
This time people couldn't wait to get Prologue, because the final game was much further away.

I think 8-9 million will be the maximum for Gran Turismo 5.

Depends on if it gets bundled.

Was Halo 3 ever bundled?

Yes it was part of Halo3+ Halo wars bundle recently (which probably is quite big part of this year sales).

And also it was sold in 15 euro price range on a few occassions during it's lifetime.

Nope that bundle was quite small because Halo 3 didn't get a big boost at that time. The bundle was released at the same time as Halo Wars and as you can see the sales in the following week is only 2k higher for Halo 3 than before. The bundle was also PAL only.

I've never seen Halo 3 for 15€. The price was always 30€ here in Germany.

Why do people think Halo will top out in the region of 10 - 12 million? It's going to get way past that.

For starters the game has already sold a million this year, still with 5 months to go, it's going to do around another million (it did this in the same timeframe august to december, last year) ODST should give a slight bump, certainly isn't going to hinder its sales as some people are saying ...

Even if the game drops to 15k a week, which would be low considering Halo 2 was around 10k per week 2 years after the 360 lauched. The game will still sell 800k+ + holiday bump.

This game is not going to die in a year, it's going to sell for the lifetime of the 360.

End of 09 = 10.8 million

End of 10 = 12 million

End of 11 = 12.7 million

End of 12 = 13.4 million

ect

I agree Seece, and especially if they keep it bundled with the Elite and Fable II, as I think they should.

I doubt it. That would require 43% of all ps3 owners to buy the game (assuming there are 23 million owners). I just don't see it happening. GT4 sold 10 million on a console that sold about 136 million units.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2): 4.01 million
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3): 4.11 million

Soul Calibur III (PS2): 0.96 million
Soul Calibur IV (PS3): 1.07 million

Total userbase is a poor means of guessing at the potential sales of games. Also if you think total PS3 sales are going to be 23 million by the time GT5 launches you're crazy. If current rumors and leaks are true and the PS3 gets a $100 price drop within the month and GT5 launches in December, then total PS3 sales will most likely be around 28 million in which case the game would only need about a 1/3 of all PS3 owners to buy the game. However, GT5 will not reach 10 million sales instantly. It will do so over the course of about a year and a half, in which case the PS3's userbase will have increased to possibly as high as 50 million by then.

Gran Turismo 5 will have the highest rate of ownership among console owners of any Gran Turismo game.

Interesting analysis. It would all have to fall perfectly in place here for this to happen though.

gta: sa-17.5 million

GTA SA is much better than GTA IV and plus lot of PS2 owners bought Wii instead of PS360

One problem with this post... and the whole thread.

Halo 3 isn't HD.

720P is official HD...Halo is pretty much 720P, only slightly off lol

Neither of you guys' analysis is correct. Yes, it was multiplatform, but you cannot say that everybody who had a 360 would've gone out, bought a PS3 and the game if it was only on the PS3, so if we were guesstimating at what the sales would be like if GTA IV was only on the PS3, it would be in between 6 and 12.8 million and still significantly under San Andreas.
