So, if you think the PS3 is dead then the 360 should have died 1 year ago :)

Now, if we believe in the PS3 price drop rumor, this alone should be enough for the PS3 to outsell the 360 breaking apart those pretty similar sales curves. With the price drop and a few good games I strongly believe the PS3 will take 2nd place by the end of 2008 (WW).

Now looking into 2009 and later... Wii is not "next gen" hardware, its a lot of fun but it will age faster than both the PS3 and the 360. So, how long do you think it can stay ahead? My guess is that in 6 months or so Wii sales curve will stall and it will eventually be passed by the PS3. Maybe it will stay ahead for the next 2 years but eventually the PS3 will win due to the 100+ million of PS2 owners waiting for a $200-$300 PS3."

I do not know where to start. This post is so f&(%#ed up it isn't funny.

1. That is not how the charts work. The PS3 will sell the same total as the Wii now, in 7 months.

2. 100 Million people aren't brand loyaltists

3. Hardware plays no major role in the console wars.

4. You use no logic for your statements, at least back it up.

1)It's debatable whether the PS3 is selling. It continues to flounder in Japan and the GBA is slowly creeping up on it in the US, not sure how it's doing here in Europe though I heard that a big chunk of it's install base is made up of launch units. I'm pretty confident due to PS3, Sony has haemoraged multiple times the losses Sega ever did with DC.

1...actually the ps3 is still on the same track as the 360 in its lifecycle..... its selling below average in japan i admit.. the gap between it and the wii is closing as of recent which actually does mean somethin if you read between the lines......

 

2...I admint i was one of the people who hyped lair and heavenly sword... but why wouldnt I??? For what possible reason would i want  a game to Flop for a system i own???.. but when i think about it now why would those two games be AAA system sellers??? why???? No reason at all.. not even BioShock did that for the 360.... its very rare that a New IP becomes a system seller... Gears of War Did it.. but the timing was perfect for it.. which is why the timing is perfect for MGS4 Killzone GTA and all the other games named by the other guy... .. last time i checked none of those games were unproven exept Wardevil and LBP


1)The thing is though that devs don't care about what consoles are selling at respective times in their life cycles they care about what their install bases are now. If the PS3 doesn't start gaining on 360 why would any sane dev choose to exclusively put their game on that system? Wii has fallen away in Japan recently but I think this will be remedied by Mario Galaxy, it's much easier for a game to be a system seller when said system is cheap!

2)I specifically bolded the games which aren't established. Killzone is definately not proven as it's prequel was very ordinary. If KZ2 is considered AAA then so is Red Steel 2 and an abundance of other upcoming sequels which had less than stellar 1st installments.


1.. youre probably right on your 1st point but the ps3 does have to show improvement which i think it will.. i dont think developers will turn their heads to that...

2.. only thing i have to comment on this is that ..whether Killzone 2 is a AAA system seller.... its not a halo status system seller but youd be crazy to say that this game doesnt have a big following from fans of the 1st game.  i mean i admit those diehard killzone fans who bought the 1st game is the reason why the 1st one sold good.. so i know at least some of those people will buy a ps3 for it if they already havent....and thats all im gonna say

In that case can you please enlighten us as to why devs will start new projects exclusive to PS3 when looking at the figures they're almost gauranteed to make less profit than they would on the other systems? I'm not saying that zero new PS3 exclusives will be announced but I am saying there will be a massive decline and it's really no mystery as to why.

If Wii loses to PS3, it will be Nintendo's fault for not fulfilling its goal of finding new audiences. So far, Wii is doing this quite well, but Nintendo will have to keep that up with more than just Wii Sports.

If Xbox 360 loses to PS3, it will either be through brute force and serious financial losses, or because Blu-ray suddenly takes off.

Anyway I will try to explain my logic:

For PS3 vs 360 my logic goes something like:

1) PS3 sells the same in the first year as the 360 even when the 360 had 2 major advantages: no next gen competition and much cheaper. LOGIC 360 DID WAY BETTER!

2) PS3 drops to $400. LOGIC SALES MUST GO DOWN!

3) PS3 gets MGS, GT, FFXII. LOGIC SALES WILL FREAKING DROP LIKE CRAZY!

And for PS3 vs Wii my logic is something like:

1) In 1-2 years when everyone has a 1080p TV... LOGIC WII'S 480P ROCKS!

2) PS3 is expensive, Wii is pretty cheap. LOGIC 100M PS2 USERS ARE WAITING ON A WII PRICE DROP TO BUY ONE!

I admit, my logic sucks but it's what I believe will happen, so what? You don't have to believe it, you can believe in whatever you like.

One thing life has proven is there are an infinite amount of possibilities. So, *could* PS3 regain the lead, sure. The real question is can you write out a plausible theory using proven historical examples that show how this will actually happen? I believe the answer to that is no, you can't. At this point in time the PS3 has nothing going for it to demonstrate why it will suddenly change course and become #1.

Only two consoles to my knowledge have ever come back from such a deficit.

1. SNES. why, it all nearly all of the 3rd party support out of the gate due to NES.
2. Wii, why, media buzz and the blue ocean strategy surrounding casual and/or non-gamers.

Sony and the PS3 has neither of these. Arguably it doesn't even have the same strategies the made the PS1 and 2 the global successes they were.

 MGS, GT, and FFXIII will no more save the PS3 than Smash Bros., Mario Sunshine, and Wind Waker saved the Gamecube. In addition, the PS3 price drop is still a rumor, however substantiated it may be.

As for the Wii, you grossly overestimate HD adoption rates... and people's knowledge of HD, for that matter. Hell, less than half of PS3/360 owners even know that their consoles are HD-capable, and I'm willing to bet that less of them even care. You also overestimate brand loyalty; people go where the games are, not where a little product logo is.
