One thing life has proven is there are an infinite amount of possibilities. So, *could* PS3 regain the lead, sure. The real question is can you write out a plausible theory using proven historical examples that show how this will actually happen? I believe the answer to that is no, you can't. At this point in time the PS3 has nothing going for it to demonstrate why it will suddenly change course and become #1.
Only two consoles to my knowledge have ever come back from such a deficit.
1. SNES. why, it all nearly all of the 3rd party support out of the gate due to NES.
2. Wii, why, media buzz and the blue ocean strategy surrounding casual and/or non-gamers.
Sony and the PS3 has neither of these. Arguably it doesn't even have the same strategies the made the PS1 and 2 the global successes they were.
