Forums - Sony - Sony receiving Government Help from Taiwan

Great! Does this mean more games?

Around the Network

No, it means in a couple of months, it'll go tits up for Sony one way or another :D

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Hey! Whoever you are, stop posting on gebx's account!

ehhe, sorry I just thought this was interesting..  I just couldn't find anything negative today..

What?! Ok, now really, who are you and what have you done with gebx?

Seriously though, this looks like very good news for not just Sony but console gaming in general. If it all works out of course, and it seems like they want it to work too seeing as how the government is helping out.

Nice job Sony!!!

Maybe, just once... something may go right.

I wonder what price the PS3 would be in Taiwan/China. And how the new MMOs they are bringing out would do.

Good for Sony
Good for Taiwan

@gebx

u earned it go make a "PS3 is doomed" thread, and u will get my support (in my first post only)

At least if this all works out we won't have to only hear about Nintendo expanding the market. We will be able to put Sony in that discussion... again.

Wow, Sony struck a pretty good deal here, with the government subsidizing 40% of the development and licensing fees.

I wonder if Sony will move any studio's or open any first party studio's in Taiwan.

I am from Taiwan and I think I can answer your question because I read Taiwanese news.

No, Sony will NOT move or open any 1st party Studio to/in Taiwan.  The whole purpose of this deal is to help/train Taiwanese companies and students develop console/handheld games (mainly for PSP and PS3 of course).  Taiwanese companies have been doing OK on the PC games, especially for MMO games, but lately been facing the strong competition from companies in China.  Moving towards console/handheld makes sense for the Taiwanese developers but they need tech supports and license from the manufacturers.

Taiwanese government sponsor this project because the results should be win-win for everyone: government (tax revenue, jobs) and developers (sales).  Of course Sony will benefit from it otherwise why would a Japanese company want to participate in this project?  But the most important part of this project is: the Chinese market.  By the time these Taiwanese developers come up something for PS3/PSP, I believe these devices will be much more affortable than they are now.  The Chinese market is the only hope Sony can win this HD console race.

This move should make Microsoft pretty nervous.  But I doubt they are not working on something in China.  Microsoft has their own software developing center in China.  So we will see.  The console race in this generation is getting more and more interesting.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

It's crazy that goverments are helping the entertainment industry..

Montreal did the same thing, but with 50% instead of 40%.And not just for Ubisoft

It's even crazier that government bailing out the banking industry, and it happened in US and Europe.
