Absolutely. Love stories add emotion. FFVIII is my favorite FF, and it has a very interesting love story involved in its main plot.

No. There are many JRPGS that don't have love stories like Tales of Vesperia, Final Fantasy 12, Dark Cloud 1 and Persona 3. There are more but i can't think of any others at the moment.

I loved Rita enough for it to be like a creepy love story, with a grotesque pervert boss ZenfoldorVGI, desperately in love with the little salty mage.

VIII's story is pretty weak, its love story is... okay. Not my favorite. Maybe because Squall was such a dick and I couldn't shake that off till I finished the game... he ruined it for me :P

Neverthless, the style and BATTLE SYSTEM of the game are near-unmatched. I love it.
