I realize that many of you may not understand the nature of andrewpeirce's question, and that's O.K. I am writing this for him whether others understand it or not. It is a good question, and I am glad to be able to help him out.

Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

This passage in its context is talking about eating meats that were offered to idols, but the principle behind it is that a Christian should have peace from God and total confidence about what he does. If he does not, if there is any doubt, then he can not truly act in faith. In other words, you should wait until you are 100% sure in your decision to buy and play this game. If you have doubt, explore that doubt until you know for sure one way or another.

Eph 6:2 Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

If you are still living at home ( I would assume that you are) then you are under the authority of your parent (s). Ask them what they think. If they say no then you have your answer.

I'll write one more but its a bit longer so I'll do it on a seperate post.

 acting on anger is a sin usually (not always though, for exampleJesus acted on anger when the temple was being used for comercialism)

I searched for video games in an online bible and it didnt say anything about them, so I assume its ok =P.

So if I wanted to buy Grand theft auto to run around and kill pedestrians... that would probably be considered bad?

@andrew

No, since its not real. If it were real then yes its bad. Acting on anger is a sin, but when you play video games it releaves anger and stress. Video games are good for your mind.

Psalm 11:15

God himself examines the righteous one as well as the wicked one,
And anyone loving violence His soul certainly hates

Any violent game that you get would be against god's standards. He's very anti-violence apparently...or at least he wants you to be. Playing a game with chainsaws cutting off people's heads and loving it is nurturing a love of violence.

*running away before akward religious debate ensues*

Playing a violent video game does not make one a violent person.  On the other end of that you could have someone who never played or watched anything violent, yet thinks and meditates about violence and ends up as some crazy cerial killer.

Thinking bad things is a sin though.. so I am pretty sure acting out bad things is a sin too? But for the thingking, I have only read about thinking sexual things as a sin. Also, thinking about having sex with your wife is not a sin.Not sure about violence though.

Actually, if life the battle is in the mind, what you spend your time thinking about is what you often end up doing.

The outward sin is a manifestation of that which was being played out in the mind.

 The roman one: thats what I hate about the bible. It is usally ver hard to understand :(

I have hear the Honor thy Mother and They father vesrse, and I rember when Halo 1 came out they said once I was 17 I could get it... but that could have been like the "we will get a pet when you are older" excuse...
