much much MUCH better of a list...although i would add wii sports.

now unlike ff7 and pack in game like wii sports that did nothing new and wii sports should not be on the list.... mab wii fit

umm...did you not watch E3 this year where sony's "motion controller" and natal were revealed?  wii sports might not be the first game that has motion control but it was the spark that changed the entire direction of the video game industry away from the classic controllers and towards gesture controls, the game that took nintendo from the butt of the industry to the industry leader, the game that turned more non-gamers in to gamers than any other game.

yeah, ff7 has nothing on wii sports.

FF7 didn't really do anything new. Just because it was the first RPG YOU ever played doesn't make it innovative.

For the record I loved FF7 it's my second or third favorite RPG.

Street Fighter 2 should be on that list. Its started the International Tournement scene. It was so big that there were lines of 20+ people every day.

Dammit! no megaman2???????

But this thread and list isn't about innovation, it's about the games that really matterred, and FFVII had a huge impact on the popularity of JRPG in the West.

Final Fantasy 7 should be added for making JRPGs mainstream.

Apart from that, awesome list.

actually before FFVII JRPGs are popular, ever heard of Final Fantasy Three? (which is final fantasy 6 btw) it was way popular back in the day.

Although FFVII is arguably one of the best games ever, It didn't introduce anything new.

nope but this introduced the rest of the world to RPGS... Fact RPGS was not mainstream till this game came out.

this game should be on the list

The clue is in the title "VII", RPG's had been mainstream before it, probably you just didn't want to play them.

Name 3 what had anywhere near the impact FF7 had.

He said RPG's were not mainstream, he never mentioned impact.  If you believe his viewpoint then you're deluded and I see little point coming up with a list for you, I can probably name 10 RPG's prior to FFVII with ease though.

perfect list

Actually, even though I'm not the biggest FFVII fan I agree it should be on there and I'll add it later.

And I can't take all the credit for this list, it's from a class a few years back (2006-ish).
