Why list The Dig (the only mediocre and most unpopular of all LucasArts adventures) for a quite obscure reason?

Also: If I recall correctly, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans was the first RTS game to make the genre popular in 1994 (and retrospectively marked the beginning of one of the biggest franchises ever). I think Warcraft was the first game that was considered the better Dune II. Command & Conquer came out in 1995 and made the genre even more popular.

No Civilization?

Other than that - good and interesting list, as far as I can judge.

So, if by your logic, FF 7 made RPG's mainstream by being a blockbuster, than they have never been mainstream since (since no game has sold as well as it?).

They were popular before, they still are. FF 7 is just a phenomenally popular RPG. Sure it won over a good bit of new fans to the RPG genre. But it did not create the modern RPG genre or "make it mainstream" as so many so often love to say.
