Forums - Gaming - Next gen perspective from someone who hasn't made the leap yet.

Welcome to the boards mate ;)

I feel the same , but to be honest I may end up buying a PS3 eventually . Luckily price is not a major issue for me , time is ... Also , I totally agree with you , there arent any good games out there yet . The only real next-gen games that I can see are Gears of Wars , Oblivion and Motorstorm ... and thats not enough for me ... Maybe next year , we will see :)

Hello

Mass Effect is not a shooter, it's a RPG...

Bye.

Have you seen any gameplay vids? There are some serious shooter elements in that game. It's the only thing I have misgivings about for it, since Bioware doesn't have much history as action developers.

Even if the action is a little unpolished, the game as a whole will probably kick ass.

Mass Effect is not a shooter, it may look like it in the videos but it's not. Fact is that aiming in mass effect has little to do with aiming in shooters, it is the way to select what enemy to attack.

If you watch closely you'll see that even if the player is waaay off target, you still hit your enemy.

Headshots/different damage areas and similair does not exist, and you can pause the combat any time you want.

On top of this is the epic storyline and the more than two full novels worth of interactive conversations.

A non linear story with multiple endings and countless choises that will change the world.

A whole galaxy to explore.

Does this sound like a shooter to you?

Darn, I was hoping a worthy successor to Deus Ex had arrived.

Again, I'm sure it will still kick ass.

If you must play Tekken and FF and cant wait to see if they go 360 buy a PS3. But if you were serious about being an RPG fan don't kid yourself. The PS2 has a tonne of great RPG's, at this stage the PS3 has none (except oblivion), and the only two that can be seen coming are FF and WKS

 Uhh what about

Folklore

Enchanted Arms

Fallout 3

The Last Remnant

and neither MGS or FF are coming to the XBox

Enchanted Arms, Fallout 3, and Last Remnant are also on 360, though.

Most of the well-known ones have already been listed, but here are a few other 'bigger-name' upcoming 360 RPGs that are not on other consoles:

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements
Elveon
Fable 2
Huxley
Spectral Diario (Idea Factory's next gen project)

And Folklore isn't an RPG if I recall correctly.

See Ya George.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

Age of Conan and Elveon are coming to PS3 scotland yard. As well as Eternal Sonata.

And TC, rumors for FFXIII and MGS4 to go to 360 will never die. No matter how many Sony, Konami, and Square Enix have said otherwise. People still believe that it will happen.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Good first post dude. Good insight into the market and its always good (as people who like to predict figures and watch sales numbers) to get the opinion of someone outside the regular 'everyday' circle... it can become easy to close your mind and think 'thats all their is'.

It's interesting to hear from you - someone who loved the PS2 that you feel like Sony is doing something royally wrong. I can't put my finger on it directly but the charm and power and stigma that they brought with them from the PS1 and PS2 just isn't there this time... I don't know if its because they are late to the game and have never had their console launch in a situation like this - they certainly can't seem to formulate working business models from a losing position, they are scrambling and everything they are doing are just all the wrong decisions... it's a weird thing to watch - the fallen giant at this stage - perhaps falling from grace and returing is something that has helped Nintendo to become so strong.

You will be a very welcome member to this forum.

Too all those trolls out there that get bagged all the time - take a note from this guys book!

Very nice thread!
Thanks to everyone trying to help to make an informed decision and not just shoving their opinions down everyones throats.

I seem to be in a similar situation to Makveli777, but with some differences.

I too, have not made the leap to the next generation (we really should stop calling this the "next generation"...), but in fact I was not really in the last generation either. Sort of...my last console was a dreamcast, so I feel I've lost out on some great games on mainly the PS2.

I grew up playing and loving nintendos games on mainly the SNES and gameboy, and because of this I have a soft spot for Nintendo. Having said this, I have not been convinced by the Wii and are hesitating to get one. There is really only one game on it that I really want to play and that is Zelda TP. Super Mario Galaxy looks as if it is going to be amazing though.

However apart from these two, there is nothing that interests me on the horizon. I really don't enjoy SSB at all, and Mario Kart has not been good since the SNES in my opinion...(well actually the DS version was excellent when I tried it), Wii fit seems very uninteresting....and when it comes to multiplatform titles I would prefer the versions on the more high-specced machines.

So on to the Xbox360...I must say that I'm really impressed with the amount of quality software coming to the machine lately, but I do have the same concern as Makaveli777, that it mainly houses similiar FPS/action games, and I'm not really into these games. I do really like Gears of War though, and would like to own and play it a bit more. Not sure if it was the graphical impact that got me hooked or what... There are a few good racing games on the X360 too which is a big plus in my book. I never was an xbox fan and it feels strange that I'm actually concidering to change sides....but it should of course just be about the games.

The PS3 was what I originally planned to get, not least to be able to play some of the ps2 games I missed (Okami, ICO, Shadow o.t.C, rez, maybe some GTA...), but it has understandibly not convinced me either. It does seem to be doing better here in europe though than in NA (I live in Sweden), but still....it does not seem like the obvious choice like the ps2 did. I am interested in the BR functionality to go with my new HD plasma, and there are some nice games...if it only had PGR4!

Buying all three consoles would be possible of course, but I would feel ridiculous...and it would be quite expensive with accessories and all. I have been thinking of getting a DS but this is about getting a home console, I'm not going to be sitting at home playing on this tiny thing...though maybe I should...

Unlike Makaveli777 I am not interested in JRPGs, I want to play a racing game or two, I want to play a lot of Pro Evolution Soccer (I am european remember!) and the odd other sports game, I like some more 'arty' games like the ones I mentioned above (Rez, Okami, ICO), I like adventure games (can't wait to play Assasins creed), some fun party/social games (Guitar hero is great, and I know it's not that popular in NA, but...singstar is really a lot of fun..)....and well, basically any game that is really enjoyable, but there is only so much time to spend on gaming.

I've been going on for too long here, but any opinions would be appreciated.
