Agreed. A 2D multiplayer Mario will be good-Four Swords on Gamecube is likely the best Nintendo title many people have never played-and will have a wider appeal than Galaxy 2. But since we're getting a new 2D and a new more core centric 3D Mario game... I'm quite happy.

I wouldn't call NSMB Wii or Wii Sports Resort Nintendo's top 2 E3 titles, but I can see them being 2 of the top 3 selling games of the year. And the third will most likely be Wii Fit Plus.

NSMB Wii + Wii Sports Resort > HALO 3 : ODST + Forza 3 + GT5 + FF14

not a troll thread at all.....but if we look at this in terms of "potential SALES"....Nintendo wins blindfolded....

personally I don't think those 2 wii titles deserve to outsell those other ones.....but it will happen

probably the main reason i think that Nintendo won E3 (a lot of megatons)

imagine if you count Wii Fit plus and Mario Galaxy 2....

(2009 is going to be just like 2008 for Wii, when SSBB, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit outsold major games like GTA IV)

Okay, now try:

Modern Warfare 2 + Halo Reach + Gran Turismo 5 + Halo 3 ODST.

12 million + 8 million + 9 million + 7 million = 36 million.

Those two games will sell well, but NOT 36 million combined.

If you were just talking about exclusives, it would be different. Replace Modern Warfare 2 with Forza 3, and that makes 9 + 8 + 7 + 4, so 28 million. WSR + NSMB MIGHT manage that.

You're pretty much spot on for the Wii games, I think (perhaps lowballing WSR a bit), but...

Halo 3: ODST 3-5 million? It could double that. This is a Halo FPS, with a beta for a future Halo game. Don't compare it to Halo Wars. It's a shooter. It won't reach Halo 3 level sales (that should do around 13 million), but I would predict around 8-9 million for the game.

And FF14...it's an MMO. It'll be lucky to hit 2 million on PS3. Extremely lucky. If it sold 5-6 million, Square Enix would call Microsoft and make farting noises on the phone, then promptly withdraw all support and make all of their future games PS3 exclusive. They would also start grovelling at Kaz Hirai's feet.

And they would cancel the 360 version of FF14, too.

 I didn't know FF14 was a MMO, sorry. You're of course correct in that aspect.

 

I may as well have lowballed Halo 3. After checking abouts, 6-8M seems more likely.

You can't forget the Wii has a seriously good track record when it comes to pack-ins.

Wii Play (+controller): 23+ million
Wii Fit (+balance board): 19.5+ million
Mario Kart Wii (+wheel): 15.9 million
I think it's safe to say all these games have a good chance of nearing or going over the 30 million mark.

So who's to say that Wii Sports Resort(+Wii Motion Plus) won't sell an incredible amount? Who's to say the sequel to a game that over 45 million people own won't sell an incredible amount? I know I'll be buying it. I'm willing to say that 20 million is all but guaranteed.
