The PS3 and 360 came quite close to killing core gaming this gen with the dev costs of games for their systems. Even with the Wii saving a lot of 3rd parties, the PS3 and 360 have destroyed a handful already and will continue to destroy and shrink many more.

Thanks Nintendo, for stopping the industry from collapsing. Otherwise this may have been the last generation of gaming. Oh, and all you whiny little kids can call Nintendo casual after you beat Punch-Out!! Makes Halo 3 on Legendary look like Imagine Babies. Most of you kids aren't even old enough to know what a difficult game is, and grew up on the pampering of 3D gaming and the casual bloody gorefests that choose style over function.

And for the record, nothing in this industry is more casual than games targeted at teenagers. Play what you enjoy, but don't pretend the crap you like his high art and whatever crap everyone else likes is automatically worse.

MS and Sony still focused and their core games, while Nintendo completely went the other way, it's nice to bring third party into the convo, but i believe he was talking about the comapany itself.

And btw, why is it that 3rd party are still not making the wii their main focus since it their savior, i always wondered about that. It's about time the wii get the main games like they are getting in JAPAN, there is no excuse for it not to happen yet.

Nintendo makes twice as many games as MS and Sony combined, and thus a far larger variety.

Nintendo has released their core franchises far faster than any generation previous. In 2 and a half years they have released Mario Kart, Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, Punch-Out, Smash Bros, Excite Racing, Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Battlaion Wars, Wario Land, Mario Baseball, Mario Strikers, and remakes for Donkey Kong, Metroid, and Pikmin. They also published Fatal Frame and have made a Sin & Punishment sequel, one of the most niche core games they have.

On the DS they have Mario, Metroid, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Elite Beat Agents, Professor Layton (yes, they published), Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, ASH, Custom Robo, Band Bros., Jump Stars, Donkey Kong, Etrian Odyssey, Soma Bringer, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Hotel Dusk, Jet Impulse, Kirby, Magical Starsign, Mario & Luigi RPGs, Star Fox, Trace Memory, Yoshi's Island and numerous spinoffs of all the above franchises.

Hah, Nintendo has made more core games for Wii than you own on your PS3 in total. From Nintendo alone! Even if you take away the sports title. On DS they have made more core games than you have in your entire games collection!

If Nintendo doesn't care about the core gamer what's that make Sony and Microsoft?

There is no excuse for this argument anymore. It's silly, childish, and clearly false. Please stop with these stupid topics.

btw, Professor Layton is one of the more difficult games that I played in my entire life.

very mature indeed.

Anyway, NAZ, I havent updated my games library in a long time, so it's not incation of the game I own. I would agree with you that DS get tons of support, but the fact remains this Gen Nintendo has not been focusing on their core games. Yes, they can't kill it, but i never said the could  since they don't care as much.

This is the same company who clearly believed Wii music was their big game during the Holidays. They will provide the cores their games, but their mind is on the casuals and this E3 will futrher prove my point.

Of course nintendo is killing core gaming... and of course nintendo doesn't care about core gaming... i mean, where's mario? Smash bros? Mario kart??? zelda??? and metroid... i mean if nintendo really care about core gaming... how come the wii doesn't have any of .... those.... >_>

oh wait... *looks at punch out* >_>

Nevermind, another idiot crying for attention, that's all...

Where's F Zero, where's Pikmin, where's Waverace, where's Donkey Kong?

Just kidding they've released alot this gen already.  Think some Nintendo fans  just never got over that E3 and nothing between Brawl and Mario Kart in April/May last year and Punch out in May this year.  And Nintendo haters are just jealous that Wii is raping their favourite consoles in sales and Mario Kart Wii is going to sell way way way more than any non-Nintendo game in history.

Well just as a informative point of view

They are releasing DK NPC on wii soon, i know, game cube remake with different controllers (from congas to wiimotes) but it's a DK game.

Pikmin 3 was confirmed.... just waiting for the actual announce.

F-zero and Waverace..... i still have hopes for a F-zer0 announcement... not sure about waverace =\

But I don't think anyone should say that Nintendo doesn't care about hardcore gaming. B/c that's just BS!!!

I LOVE ICELAND!

What you are saying makes no sense. If "core" games are A and "casual" games are B then Microsoft and Sony make A, Nintendo makes A+B. B does not subtract from A. It is only in addition to A.

Again, Nintendo produces far more software in this industry than its competitors, and thus produces a much wider variety. The existence of B has not in any way reduced the amount, quality, nor attention given to A. Anyone who's actually been playing these Wii games can tell you they are significantly more fleshed out than their predecessors all around.

What fact remains? Show me this fact? All I'm seeing is you repeating the same statement in the face of insurmountable evidence to the contrary. That's not a fact. Quite the opposite... If you have nothing left to add to the argument you are better off either admitting defeat and saving some self-respect or fleeing in cowardice.

I just wanted to show how much owenage was on that post.

One more thing.... Nintendo's mind is on "casuals"... but they still provide "core" games... wouldn't that just make Nintendo's mind being in actual both "cores and casuals"???  Another question... do you based everything on E3? So... is sony still the BS company that was a E3 2006?

Please.....

It will be epic indeed, i expect great games from all 3 consoles, but the focus of each company will be quite similar. MS is will try badly to bring out games like nintendo. Sony will try the casual games as well but Nintendo will blow them away with better casual games. There will be few core games as so many are expecting.

@ MANARD

That Sony press event was an embarrassment. Sony has not delivered what people wanted this Gen, I  say that each and everyday. MS as I ALWAYS said is the most impressive to me this Gen. They are competing and trying knowin their stregnt while Sony lives in another world thinking they are still king.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
