Lol, if they use even one billion of that money, they could buy several huge third-parties. I think buying Capcom, Sega and Take Two would cost less than 1 billion dollars.
Not sure though. Anyone?

Not dollars...yen.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

That´s a lot of money.

@Stefan, I disagree that it will be hard for Nintendo, of course it depends on what actions Apple takes in the next yr or so. Their unpredictability is the most intimidating competitor for their DS especially.

They have plenty of ideas and im sure what ever they do will either be fun or at least be another attempt to expand, and therefore sell more games to, the audience.

Get down to earth guys, that's only 10 billion $.
That's nice for sure, but it's not a crazy amount........

They could be building up a war chest for the next generation. The new generation will be harder for them. They are defending. Microsoft always goes after the biggest player and Sony will want their lost market back. With this huge moneypile they can stand up against a lot.

Not really. Last gen they went up against GC and this gen they're up against the PS3.

Microsoft went for the PS3 because Sony was the last gen's marketleader. It assumed that they were the main competition and tried to pull their PS2 buyers in their camp by launching quickly. When the wii broke through, they were proven wrong in their gamble (of biggest competitor) and overall strategy. At this point they couldn't really switch anymore to the wii, so focussed mainly on keeping the PS3 in the corner. The next time, Microsoft will assume that Nintendo is the prime target and plan for it.

That's what i mean with going after the biggest player. Something similar could have happened with the gc, not sure though. I wasn't really in gaming in that generation. But it's true this generation. Microsoft thought the battle would be between Sony and it. They planned year(s) for it. Once executed they were unable to change the plans much. Once you build your console, that's what you have to work with.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I was on a finance course where it was said that if a company has too much cash it can devalue its shares because investors feel the company doesn't know what to do with money or rather how to invest money. At this time where interest rates are non-existent I don't see the logic in holding on to so much cash. Surely they could invest a couple of billions in something. Real estate is at an all time low now. They could start there. Also buy up a few more studios.

Because he did not go to business school.

Instead, he uses common sense.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
