Forums - Sales - Mario and Sonic will sell 4 million - Sega

I am just guessing - this could sort-of flop.
But I wouldn't compare it Mario Party. I think its a completely different genre.

Everyone seems to be understating the Olympics license. Its only the BIGGEST sporting event in the world. Forget the Soccer World Cup. Forget tennis, cricket, rugby, F1, etc... the Olympics dwarfs them all

*Billions* of people will be glued to their TV sets later next year... and what game will be advertised? This one - with the official Olympics license. And for both the DS + Wii (two cheap, casual platforms).

I wonder if this has an *exclusive* license - somehow I doubt it. It would have been mentioned already, and the cost would be ridiculous. (wonder who else is making an Olympics game... EA?)

(and yes, I would expect this to become one of the top-5 best selling games on the Wii/DS combined - although its sort of hard to know exactly, since it is on two platforms. You would have to think the Wii version will get most of the sales - but its hard to know).

4 million???

I think that is way too high. I see this game selling 2.5 million copies WW at the most.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

Um, no. No way. The World Cup is FAR bigger than the Olympics. In fact, just the football (soccer) competition in the Olympics, which is limited to under-23 teams for the most part (three overage players allowed per team), draws more viewers than the rest of the sports combined. The World Cup's ratings are far above any Olympic event; the World Cup Final in and of itself draws well over 1 billion viewers.

Hmmm...

I had a long reply typed up, did some research only to find out that I may actually be wrong.

These Olympics will be huge in the US, China, Russia, Japan, Australia - and probably other countries.

The World Cup is huge in Europe, much of Asia, and probably other regions (how popular is it in the US?).

I would find it hard to believe though, that over the entire event (as the Olympics have non-stop coverage for a month) that the World cup can beat in it terms of total viewing hours. In terms of peak viewers (at any time), the World Cup would easily win though.

I just played the game today (a demo of it) at the wii connection tour in Melbourne, Australia.. for the most part, it looked pretty good, the controls were similar to Rayman (the kind of motions i mean).. I only had a chance to play Track (100m dash) and Swimming (again, 100m) but that is only because they had a playable copy of Metroid Prime 3 which I was all over (it doesn't come out here until November)

From what i could see (most things were locked due to it being a demo) there are a *lot* of games to play to play in Mario and Sonic.. i wasn't very excited for it before today.. but i think it would be a really good game for when you just want to have some fun (my mind has been changed, but i'm not 100% on a purchase just yet)

Ps. i realise this has little to do with the thread topic.. but i haven't seen any other impressions on it, and didn't think it really deserved its own thread

What you guys have to remember is that this game will be huge in Japan. Immensely huge. Look at how wii Sports is selling there, it wont leave the charts! If This game does as well as Wii Sports did in Japan, i dont see why it wont sell a couple million.

If Nintendo throws in some good commercials it could sell that ammount . Im not happy for Nintendo ... just for Sega :D

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Those numbers sound pretty insane, especially considering the last time a game published by Sega sold that well was on the Megadrive/Genesis.

I suppose it could happen if the combined factors of being an official olympics game, a casual game on the Wii, and containing Mario characters all come together in a spectacular fashion. Being any good as a game will probably help too, although the amount of people who buy this due to good reviews etc will probably be pretty low.

I'm very skeptical about four million, but we're definitely looking at a million seller here.

of course it will sell over 4 million... mario + sonic 2gether = BIG SALES
