Those who know my history and loyalty to Sega will understand.......................
Sony were the 1st "corporation" to arrive in the console gaming business therefore i couldn't give a toss about them.
When sony taste defeat (not if........ when) then i will congratulate whichever company it is that inflicts the pain....... Wether it's Nintendo, Microsoft or even a new player (apple for example)

really?
Philips: CD-i 1990
Panasonic: 3DO 1991
Sony: Playstation 1994

The CD-I wasn't a gaming console. At least not initially. After it failed as multimedia set top box Phillips stared packing it with a controller and tried to go for the gaming market. The CD-I originally came with a standard remote control.
Panasonic was just one of several hardware manufacturers for the 3DO company. The 3DO Company was responsible for the hardware and games for the platform for the most part. They simply went electronics manufacturers like Goldstar and Panasonic to build their consoles for them. That is why they were so expensive. Panasonic, Goldstar, etc. had to sell the hardware for a profit because the weren't making any software for the platform.
So Ronster is technically correct. Although he really needs to stop holding such hatred towards Sony. They are just a company. I liked Sega too and they went out of business because of Sega. They'd be gone whether Sony entered the console market or not.
Sega of Japan was incompetent. Tom Kalinske made the Sega Genesis a success in North America while the Mega Drive bombed horribly in Japan. They forced Sega of America to release the Saturn early at select retailers in the North America resulting in Kalinske quitting and third party developers along with retailers being pissed at Sega.
Sega of Japan hired Bernie Stolar as Kalinske's replacement and he ran the Saturn into the ground. He did such a poor job with the Saturn that Sega of Japan canned the Saturn in Japan early to launch the Dreamcast. Third party developers and retailers in Japan were now pissed at Sega for dropping the Saturn. The Saturn was and actually still is the best selling second place console in Japanese history.
The Dreamcast had NO chance at success. Sega of Japan had successfully alienated retailers and third party developers in both North America and Japan. They were 2 billion dollars in debt. Despite an excellent job by Peter Moore in North America, the Dreamcast just couldn't sell enough hardware to make up for the debt Sega had incurred thanks to bone headed decisions of Sega of Japan. They had sucessfully managed to rack up huge debt, ruin consumer confidence in the Sega brand, alienate retailers, and alienate third party developers. None of that had anything to do with Sony, Nintendo, NEC, or anyone else. Sega did it to themselves. Accept it and move on with your life already Ronster.
BTW: Sorry for the extented rant. I'm just tired of people blaming Sony for Sega's ineptitude. I'm not a Sony fan by any stretch of the imagination. Sony succeeded in this industry because a great business plan. That combined with the incompetence of Sega and arrogance of Nintendo gave them a grand opportunity to ascend to the top of the industry. You don't like Sony being in the industry? Don't blame them, blame Nintendo and Sega for leaving the door wide open for them.
Side note: MikeB is troll. Ignore him and stop giving him the attention he craves. Please people DONT FEED THE TROLL!
