I believe MGS 4 would be lucky to break 1 million sales ltd on XBox 360 if it releases on the 360. MGS 4 would be spread over 4 or 5 XBox 360 game discs. Past trends have shown games being delayed by more than 12 months adversely impact on game sales. If MGS 4 is not announced at E3 09 it will have just been nothing more than an unsubstantiated rumour.

MGS4 is mega popular so you can't quite compare it to usual trends. For example RE4 had more success on the PS2 while the Gamecube version was the original.

I don't think MGS4 on the 360 would top the PS3 version in sales but there is potential to sell 2+ million in my opinion. In the past I understand why they kept MGS exclusive to PS2, but Sony isn't the top dog anymore so they might as well collect money from the 360 audience as well.

I think part of my "How to identify a 360 fanboy" list explains this:

7) Metal Gear Solid 4 is a boring game. In fact, it's not even a game, it's a movie. A bad, boring movie, with useless gameplay thrown in. WHAT'S THAT? THERE'S A CHANCE IT'S COMING TO 360? MGS4 IS AWESOME AND DESERVES TO BE MULTIPLAT! What? It's not going multiplat? Of course it is! Kojima clearly hinted at it when he said he liked cheesecake! Well, it will go multiplat. Not that I care, I don't even like it.

Why does every PS3 fanboy care?

It makes no sense, MGS4 was released a year ago, it being on the 360 means nothing more than the 360 owners getting another great game. It won't push hardware anywhere and it's no indication of Kojima's future plans or Konami's either.

I'd be fine with it if they just wanted a great game.

What most of them want (the ones who hate MGS4) is to see the PS3 lose an exclusive. They won't even buy it.

Now, Kojima's denied it several times. What do you want him to do? Make a broadcast on TV? Launch a satellite into space? Send everyone an email with "FREE PORN" as the subject, and say it's not happening?
