nintendo is a Japanese company so nationalism is no problem maybe were in a recession and cant go out and buy something for 400$

Interestingly, the PS3 is just such a good BD player and it is even a much better DVD Player. I never use my DVD player anymore, because my DVD look rubbish on my flat TV. The PS3 upscaling is great...

But maybe it is a cultural difference.

At least 90% of german would never consider to buy a 200 EUR laundry (washmachine) which consumes tons of water and electricity and breaks after 3 years and would instead buy a > 600 EUR model. The will find the budget, because it will pay off in the long term.

Somehow the same with the console. After 1 Year online gaming 50 EUR difference is already gone.

And never to speak of the people which wasted 200 US$ on the external HD-DVD drive... M$.... this would have really upset me.

BD became HD standard because of the PS3...

And also in your example everybody should buy XBOX Arcade and nobody a Wii, because it is much cheaper.

PS3 sells poorly because it's too expensive, not well advertised (lots of ads, but they aren't very good)

The 360 sells well because the entry fee is low, once you use Live you don't want to go back to anything else, and because of great franchises like Halo that have word of mouth helping thier sales.

360 is easy to mod and DVD-DL is cheap. (blu-ray burner and media? um no)

360 released before PS3.

How can you say Americans Nationalists? PS1 and PS2 were doing amazing. Xbox 1 was from American? You can ask samething why 360 is not doing as good as other consoles in Japan.

M$ is playing every card right now it can to increase its sales.

Bundles, price cuts, huge marketing budgets. Everything.

Sony is actually selling well considering that it is trying to be profitable. As soon as Sony actually decides that it is time to make a move on the 360, I feel that Sony will easily take the lead away.

I remember alot people said that last year.

B the friends, every one i play with and know is on xbox live

C Ive been burned by sony a lot right before this generation in regards to audio and video purchases (TVs/earphones/speakers/receivers)

D I can not justify the cost of a third console until the price is down to 199.99

E unlike last generation almost everything is multiplat so much smaller list of sony only games I want (im hoping valkyrie chronicles is multiplat)

F blueray dose not mean a thing to me. ive seen both own a nice tv 1080p and just stick to dvds with upscaling at this point in my collections life im looking for niche titles that have not been made into blue ray or cost more then i would spend on it. qua

G I see no point in having built in wifi on a home console, wired connections are better, and if your not moving it around a lot whats the point (yeah yeah reduced clutter what ever )

H HDMI is nice with the one cable and digital and all but its also DRM hell, but i have that option i prefer component which though analog can offer the same quality of signal, plus i custom out my audio that way with less jumps.

I, you got me with the HD  hard drive i can somewhat understand the lack of an HD  hard drive on the basic model but thats a bullshit move and a step back..... you fucked up MS

J though the bluetooth standard is nice, it did not come unto its own until version 3..... the ps3 does not use version 3 (kind of nit picky but i liks me tech)


K for both consoles (but more pointed at MS) what is up with not letting me use a jump drive for file saves and crap, or for an external HD  hard drive what if i want to boot for that HD  hard drive dick move I have so many spare jump drives and HDs hard drives laying around then i have devices and your tightwad accountant decided to try and rip people off nice way to alienate people I hope it comes back and bites you

The ps1/2 did phenomenal in the states so there is no such thing as c=ulteral difference in american sales.

And that analogy of the washing machine doesnt hold up.

First off the 360 doesnt break after 3 years (sure my 3 ps2s broke in the same timeframe but thats besides the point...)

Secondly , people see the ps3 and 360 as the same (with good reason as they share 90% of the same games) so its going to come down to price.

200$ US for a hard drive? Where the hell are you getting your numbers from? A 60 gb drive with head set , ethernet cable and 3 months of live comes to 100$.

So what if BD became standard , even if it did people would just buy a BD player instead of a ps3.

The wii is a completely different animal in a different market.......

HEY!!! HD-DVD drive does NOT MEAN Harddrive... it was High Definition DVD, the opponent to Bluray...


One fact which comes up additionally for free...

You can install Linux on the PS3, so not so much homebrew needed.

AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE HARDDISK WITHOUT BREAKING GARANTUEE...
