Forums - Sony Discussion - Why PS3 in US selling bad? Americans Nationalists? Buy American?

A lot of it has to do with currency exchange rates, and many countries where much more sheltered by the price increase of the PS3 due to how their currency was valued in comparison to the Yen and American Dollar when the PS3 was launched ... In Canada (for example) the PS2 launched for $450 and the PS3 launched for (roughly) $600, so the price increase represented by the PS3 was 100% in the United States and 33% in Canada.

I am always wondering why in US the PS3 is doing bad compared to Europe... Are the american just Microsoft Zombies or are they following the "King of War" G.W. Bush words "BUY AMERICAN"?

I mean in Europe the PS3 was selling much better than the XBOX360 until M$ lowered their prices below 200 EUR. And even now, at this hefty almost 200 EUR difference between PS3 and XBOX360 Arcade, still PS3 is following the XBOX on the heels...

I personally would never consider buying a M$ console just because of their RULE THE WORLD attitude...

But now, if I try to get it objective:

PS3 has Bluray, a standalone Player in this Quality is at least 200US$.

I would think that most people buying XBOX or PS3 will have a HD capable TV set (LCD or Plasma), so to have good quality movies require BD, or big Harddrives for Downloading...

PS3 has still a value advantage, if you compare all options....

Yea dude, we Americans are anti-anything not american, that's why our automobil industry is booming and the jap or germans cars like the Civic or BMWs don't sell here and that's why we're not pro-capitalism

Sarcasm aside, maybe it is the fact that we Americans actually noticed that Sony was trying to stick up our @$$ and we're not willing to pay the outrageous price of the PS3 like Europeans "kinda" are (cuz let's be honest, Sony screwed the EU the most).

What are you looking at, nerd?

America is one of the least nationalist countries when it comes to buying goods. So no. It's not American nationalists.

I mean look at our huge trade deficit.

I hate these stupid anti-American thread.

Ps3 is selling bad in america because of sony , not americans.

If you cannot make an product that isnt as appealing as the competition , then of course consumers arent going to buy it.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Ìt was just the provoke a discussion, because I would like to know and understand.

For me I can not say that the XBOX was better marketed, not at all.

And when I compare the Price of both with the options included, PS3 is so much more appealing.

I payed 599 EUR when it came out, so a lot more as the US people (599 US$).

But the BD Player is included
Harddisk was included
HDMI Port was included
Card readers were included
Bluetooth was included
I got Motorstorm and Casino Royale for free
Online Gaming is free

And even today I think there is no price difference if you compare from what the console offers.

Software is like Sex, it is better when it is free!

it doesn't matter how the options and price compare out.  ps3 may be better deal overall, get more for your money or whatever you want to say.

but if said item is out of someones price range they won't even consider it.  you can show someone the coolest gadget in the world, but if they can't afford it then it doesn't matter and $400+ is a lot to pay for a luxury item

The 360 is just more popular here than the PS3. Most likely due to marketing and Halo.

The PS3 is also $400 - $500 in one of the worst economic downturns to hit America since the Great Depression.

It's just not the PS3's time right now.

Theres something called perceived value....just because those features appeal to you (crossed out thing that dont matter or the 360 already has) doesnt mean that they will appeal to everyone.

I have had my ps3 for four months and never have I had the urge to use the ps3 as a BD player and Im confident there are others like me. There are those(the majority) that value price over features and the ps3 loses in that battle to the 360 and wii.

this guy is awsome who is he there've been alot of new sony members joing the site

anyway NA arent buying the ps3 b/c the american civilization is not like Eu or Japan they dont stay loyal to the brand there quick to jump to the hot new trends and the 360 came out first and was the it thing back in 2006-2007

also NA tend to like FPS and the 360 and original xbox were kings of FPS

microsoft being an american company may have something to do wit it NA economy is pretty bad so a 200$ console that is pretty similar game libary wise isnt helping the ps3 either maybe if all those 3rd party exclusuves from the ps2 era stayed on the ps3 things could be diffrent
