Poor Demigod had a rocky launch. Mainly because there were too many people trying to play the game. And why were there too many people? Because there were five pirates for every paying customer.

In a post on the game's forums, Stardock's Brad Wardell has revealed that the game's servers have been flooded with users trying to play the game. More users than they would have anticipated going by sales, as Wardell says internal data shows that while the game has been purchased by 18,000 people, there have been around 120,000 people trying to play the game over the past week.

Honestly, I've pirated EVERY PC game since Crysis and UT3 and Hellgate:London in 07. If I a) finish the game or b)play multiplayer for more than a week, I buy the game. If not, then it's not worth my money and it's a shitty game. I can only think of Orange Box, World of Goo, AudioSurf, Left4Dead, and Dead Space that I have bought in the last year and a half. I might soon buy FEAR2, but I have no motivation to finish the game at all.... we'll see.

Maybe it would be a good strategy to develop more PC games in genres where mainly people are interested in who don't know how to pirate games.

I'm thinking of genres which were once popular and are niche nowadays. Simulations, turn-based strategy and point&click adventures, for example.
