Forums - Nintendo - Kotaku gives lots of details about The Conduit - and it needs polish, lots of polish

I think the biggest problem for The Conduit is that Ubisoft at any time now can release info on Red Steel 2 and totally steal all of HVS thunder.

If Ubisoft makes RS2 the game everyone wants it to be, The Conduit will suddenly seem like 'another mediocore FPS' instead of 'The best FPS on Wii'.

And if I was Ubisoft, I'd be sure to do a big media release prior to Conduit coming out so all the Wii FPS lovers would wait for my game instead.

No offense Gamerace but I take anything Kotaku says about Wii with a grain of salt.

Why? The Conduit will build a bigger potential audience for Red Steel 2 and by the holidays those that bought The Conduit will want something new and look! Ubisoft to the rescue! It'd be stupid to try to take sales away from The Conduit when there's a 5 month gap between the games..

Unless Ubisoft pulls out a megaton like M+ bundled with RS2 on M+ launch day. Then The Conduit would be epically screwed and I'd expect Ubisoft to do everything it can to steal The Conduit's attention. Otherwise.. You make very little sense to me..

This quote killed the impressions for me:
"The biggest problem I foresee for The Conduit comes from shooter fans that are too used to games on PS3 and 360. It takes a lot of work to unlearn the dual analog stick system of moving and shooting; I could see gamers getting frustrated and mistaking The Conduit's controls as the source of their learning curve woes."

It's as if they already have a bias before even sitting down to play the game. They also make their control criticism a lot less substantial by basically admitting that they aren't very well-versed with a Wiimote.

Well, they're talking to their HD gamer dominted community. So, I think that would be a valid thing to be up as The Conduit is supposed to steal some of the HD FPS fans right?

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

They are trying to appeal to that crowd at least.

Some quick thoughts

- The Conduit looks to be pretty bare-bones. There is nothing about this game that allows it to stand on its own. Yes, the controls may indeed be god's gift to video games, but what about the game itself? Art direction, level design, enemy AI, Online MP, Local MP , LAN MP, really just about everything about this game that could be good is just about as rudimentary as it gets.

- The WiiSpeak function where only players in the vicinity are heard is a bad idea, and the conduit will get panned for this come review time, especially because of how HVS has emphasized the online aspect. I'd like to know if this is an inherent WiiSpeak limitation or if HVS chose to do it this way.

- The ASE. What is the purpose of this thing? By the sounds of it there is little to no thought involved in solving the puzzles. How is this anything other than a cheap gimmick in single player?

Halo 2 had the exact same thing with voice chat, like I said.  It obviously won't apply to lobbies, as everyone is equally 'close to you in-game'.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

^ that's pretty strange. so if i grabbed the enemy flag, and you were back at the base far away, you wouldn't be able to hear my voice chat? that's pretty strange

Hm.... good question, that would be illogical. Perhaps during team games you hear your side, and during FFA matches you hear whoever's near you?
