hanafuda said: Mario Party 8 I think this will be a big seller. It has multiplayer, Mario, and fun for all the family. I can't see it shifting much hardware though. At the end of the day, we have all seen and done it before. Mario Galaxy No release date yet. I think Nintendo are really lost with this project to be honest. It deserves a thread of its own. Smash Bros Again, no release date. This should be a strong software seller, and possibly a killer app to sell hardware if they do it right. Is still a big unknown at this time though.
Mario Party 8 is currently expected to sell 1.72 milion copies. Source: http://www.thesimexchange.com/stock.php?id=107 The bears are saying the franchise has been overdone but the bulls are saying the information Nintendo has released regarding new game play through use of the Wii remote will revive the series. Additionally, many people are just discovering Nintendo again with the Wii and Mario Party is new too them. Many Wii customers have not owned a console for years. Super Mario Galaxy is currently predicted to sell 5.70 million copies. http://www.thesimexchange.com/stock.php?id=83 What makes you believe Nintendo is lost on this game? I think the current prediction is actually low given the increasing appeal of the Nintendo Wii. Super Mario Galaxy's current low prediction should be a buying opportunity. (I am long Super Mario Galaxy shares) Super Smash Bros Brawl is currently predicted to sell 5.80 million copies http://www.thesimexchange.com/stock.php?id=21 I am a little more concerned about this title. It is a very strong franchise, but as people on the simExchange have noted, HAL Labs has disclosed that the game will not rely on motion game play because they think it takes away from the Smash Bros game play. Many of the people picking up the Wii are only interested in motion game play.

I think its pretty safe to peg Mario Party 8 at 2 million, and Mario Galaxy at 8 million, both WW. With the upper ranges being 3 and 12 million. Smash is harder to say, but the low end is probably around 5 million... And the high is maybe 8... Brain Academy and DQ:Swords are harder to peg... But the low range is below 1 mil for each...

Absolutely. Also, to respond to something else someone said, I never said the Wii was finished or anything like that, but that the honeymoon is over. In other words, the initial golden period. People are now over the amazing revolution that this console has brought to the gaming world, and now just want some quality games to play. As for Mario Galaxy, I feel Nintendo really don't know which direction to take the game. Like I said, this discussion would probably deserve a thread of its own. Maybe I'll make one..

*looks at February Wii sales* Well it sure isn't over on this side of the Ocean. As for Japan, that's one week in which the system sold less than 50,000 and it was still the number one console. Seems like the big N is still riding high to me. And I challenge you to start that Mario Galaxy thread. I'll be there.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'll probably be able to start agreeing with you when in Japan a used wii costs less than a new wii, they're still selling above the costs of a new unit for some odd reason. ;)

Yeah, it is still doing well elsewhere, but I think the same will happen before too long. Mario Galaxy thread? Maybe, if I can be bothered. To summarize, I just don't think they know what to do with it. They are in a dilemma whether to make it a 'proper' Mario game or water it down and make it a kiddie fest like NSMB. Plus, the whole 1P only deal. The controls and everything: I haven't played it myself, but in the last playable form it sounds too complex for most kids (a huge part of the Wii's audience). It has been in development for quite a while now, and the last video they showed at the GDC looked nice but pretty much just the same as what they showed previously at, er, that other show last year.. Look at the sales for Zelda TP...

Didn't Nintendo just announce that Super Mario Galaxy features a 2P mode ala the classic Mario Bros. Games?

Ummm.... kiddie fest? What ARE you talking about? now anything that resembles the original Mario game is a "kiddie" game? It was my hands-down GOTY last year, and I can't even imagine how many hours I have put into it. The game seems to appeal to kids just as well as adults - I can name about 10 people OVER 30yrs who have bought a DS to play this. You have lost any resemblance to credibility in my eyes - I would like to know what YOU consider a "PROPER" Mario game includes. I love NSMB, and would love a Wii title in a similar style and gameplay style. Its already sold 4mill+ copies in Japan, and is getting close to 10mill worldwide. Im expecting new forms of gameplay from Mario Galaxy - and I think Nintendo will easily deliver based on the videos I have seen to date. I liked (but never loved) Sunshine, and think they are correcting many of their mistakes with this one.

The Nintendo fans who whispered a collective "meh" at seeing Sunshine may be coming out in force for Galaxy. Obviously that remains to be seen... But it seems strange to say a game lacks direction based on a couple minutes of footage, which is getting raves from most folks it seems... As for NSMB being "kiddie fest" and not a "proper" Mario Bros. game... Uh... Personally I'd say its the most "proper" Mario game since SMW, seeing he did start in 2D... And second, if by "kiddie fest" you mean "Super Mario is the Mickey Mouse of the computer age" then yes, I agree with you. NSMB will soon become the 7th main entry in the series to blow by the 10 million sold mark. If you combine the US and Jap versions of SMB2, thats 8, and if you count the AllStars compilation, thats 9. Sunshine wasn't helmed by Miyamoto, but he's back in charge of Galaxy. Don't bet against it being number 10.
