There's a recovery option, I'm not sure if it'll work or not, but you can try

  1. Turn your PlayStation 3 off.
  2. Hold the power button until you hear 3 beeps.
  3. You should be prompted with a screen asking you to press the PS Button on a control.
  4. The Recovery Menu should load.

And these are the options you get, dunno if this'll help or not

Restart System

Restore Default Settings

Restore File System

Rebuild Database

2009 has a High 60GB death rate.......

That sucks, the 60GB models are horribly unreliable, they're a joke. Sony will probably give you the same model back- I had a similar experience when my 60GB stopped reading discs a few months back. 2 weeks later, they sent me a refurb 60GB so hopefully they do the same for you.

Im gonna die.....

I can wait really, Its actually good.. that way i might spend more time with my JK3 star wars clan instead of playing PS3 all the time lol ..

But I NEED my saves and a 60 GB (320) when i get it back.. Or else im gonna turn SOO emo

Why does this only happen on 60gigs? And why cant you just take HDD out before sending it back to sony... then you saves are still there...

Like Xxain said if i remove it the next time i put it in the PS3 it will tell me to format it :@. My dad tried everything but we oculdnt open the HD in the PC so that wont work either... The only way is for the PS3 to start so i can create a backup from it, BUT IT WONT FREAKING START :(.

Im gonna pray night and day that Ill get the EXACT same back with the same 320 GB HD IN IT lol and all my saves there god ill be so happy and ill probably call Sony just so say thanks :')

sony advises that you put the original hdd back before sending it to them but you can take the risk to avoid reformatting in case they're able to fix your system. In my case, my soul calibur iv  disc was stuck inside and I got it back. It was in a separate case though, not the system.

EDIT: by leaving it in, you run the risk of losing your 320gb hdd. you should at least tell customer service that your custom hdd is still there.

I had a launch 60gb stayed a full 24 hours for this happened to me 2 days before my gamestop 2 year was up I give you about a 2% chance that your saves are still there sony told me it was a power problem and once they replace the part the power is cut and your saves disappear just like when you take out the 60gb hdd there is nothing left on it. The problem was just having to much shit in it with the emotion chip i just got a metal gear 80gb from game stop and its close enough.
