Forums - Nintendo - Madworld not selling confirmed

It opened better than I thought it would. I only predicted 45k and it is at 57k. I figure realistically europe will only put in 20k for the opening week. Madworld will have at least 2 weeks at 75k before it drops to 50k and then 25k. If all goes well and my predictions are accurate then the game should get 1 million by the end of the year.

I don't think it flopped. Only time will tell how well this game does.

The game will sell one million. First of all, the first week was truncated. Second, this is the type of game that will be served very well by its reputation. More and more overwhelmingly positive reviews are coming out. Couple that with the positive word of mouth, and you've got a winning combination.

It'll do fine in Europe. It'll do better in America. One million is a low-end estimate for this game's sales by the end of the year.

based on the first week sales, about 50k, and a recent talk with a gamestop employee, madoworld seems to have flopped and/or not sold well.  Here's how the conversation went.

me: Please tell me Madworld's been selling well.

him:  To be completely honest, we've sold one copy.  (this was 4 days after it came out.)

me: you've got to be kidding me!

him: yeah, there isn't really a following for that kind of thing around here.

I'm personally very unhappy about this.  What about you guys?

lol, never trust anything a Gamestop employee ever tells you.  Some of the dumbest people work there and some of the funniest stories I've ever heard start with "my local Gamestop manager said..."

I know you think you're buddy buddy with them but they're still stupid and regularly lie to your face.

I went to GameStop to buy a Wii Points card (but ended up getting MadWorld).

Here's how the conversation went.

Me: Can I get a 2000 Wii Points card?

Him: Is there even anything good to buy on there?

Me: Yeah, tons of stuff.  I still need to get Mega Man 9.

Him: Oh yeah, that game's too hard.

Me: Uh, okay.

Did the US get a free album with the game when preordered?

In Aus if you preorder Mad World SEGA Aus is giving a free album soundtrack of the game. Not sure how well this baiting strategy will work, but I know a few people including myself pre ordered the game just because of the free soundtrack haha.

There is about 1million Wii's sold in Australia. So I wouldn't be too surprised if this offer sells 10-20K copies of the game when it launches.

US got nothing with a pre order

60K copies, first couple days, is decent. Remember, most Wii games are developed for $5 and a sack of peanuts.

Seriously, though.. I wouldn't actually be surprised if MadWorld was relatively cheap to make -- Bayonetta is Platinum's big project, and I would bet its budget soaked up alot of the would-be MadWorld costs via sharing tech, etc.

Wii and HD games can share more engine tech than you might think, and the art style, and relatively short length, of MadWorld probably dropped its production budget considerably.

The funny thing is, that after MadWorld's great reviews, Bayonetta has jumped much higher on my most wanted list for the coming year or two.  Platinum obviously has some serious talent.

this is what happens when you release a 6 hr long game with little replay value.

Were we talking about the 360 or PS3, I'd be tempted to agree. But this is the Wii. I may love the system, but it is clear that a large segment of the audience isn't even aware that games are professionally reviewed.

In my experience, GameStop employees are usually fanboys. Don't take anything they say at face value.

Well when you have the creator of Resident Evil and ex Devil May Cry Talent and the makers of Okami,Godhand and Viewtiful joe,not just talented but some of the best in the industry.

I might pick it up somewhere down the line but I bet it will sell over 100k this week.
