Couple things...

3) Next week is the key - does PS3 boost again with its first RE game or does it decline? I think we can expect PS3 to top 45,000 next week but not much more as alot of the users buying this week are buying for RE5 and Yakuza 3 or in anticipation of RE5. Wii should stay fairly stable...360 will probably drop a bit. But we'll have to see.

Surely with RE5 bundle X360 sales should be expected to rise, not drop?

Anyway, the hardware numbers shouldn't have been put in the OP, Star Scream even said "Probably fake" when he posted them.

Keep in mind that PS3 also has a bundle for RE5 so the competition will be fierce in Japan next week

Interesting to see the Wii drop that much. Maybe Nintendo figured they can loosen focus on Japan, lose by 15k for the week when they're stomping the HD consoles in Europe and the US by over 100k each, still increasing their WW lead. That or maybe stockpiling for a large anticipation of sales with MH3 next month?

I belive your right on the first part. Japan hasn't been a very intersting market lately for consoles.

But about the stockpilling thing... eh. I would not be so optmistic concerning the potential of MH3 on a home console. DQX will be a far big of a deal, but the game is still like two years away...

I honestly don't know the potential for MH, as I hadn't heard of it before the mega-success of the recent PSP version. I'm only able to gather some idea on a combination of what the game is and how well it would work with the Wii input method, as well as it being a liked series.

Truth is said that Nintendo really didn't have much ready for the holiday season, and this post holiday lull could be expected. What makes me curious is to what is pushing the US and Other sales so well in comparison.

For 360 I have the normal sharp dropoff being roughly offset by the RE5 but not enough to lift it as the preorders for the 360 version aren't that high. This week had a few games on 360 sell fairly well, next week will basically just have RE5 360 selling somewhere between one tenth and one fifth as well as the PS3 version (~35k to ~60k). Its looking like 275k vs. 45k or so at the moment

In my opinion, the Monster Hunter series is a lot like Pokemon. The game is simply better on a handheld. And the sales back up that claim. The highest selling console version is at 600k (MH2 on PS2) versus the ~ 3 million of the PSP version.

As a whole, this year so far on Japan have been:

Wii: ~317k this year verse ~855 last year. Ouch: that's like 63% down.
HD consoles: ~295 this year verse ~328 last year. Should start going up yoy in two weeks, for both consoles.

Should the trend keep and Wii will sell around 1.1m on Japan this year, most likely being outsold by the HD twins and even by PS3 alone, if it keeps the pace through the year and FFXIII releases this holidays.

After Resident Evil 5 next week there's NOTHING for the HD twins that appeals in Japan. So although PS3 has a very good week it will very likely go below 10k very soon. 360 obviously as well.

Wii has a very bad start of the year and Nintendo and 3rd parties are to blame but the Wii hasn't got a pricecut yet, hell it's not even bundled with a game. And there has been no compelling software for ages. And still for 2009 it sells the same as the HD twins combined, while these have seen Star Ocean and Yakuza, two major releases, in that period.

Wii still has two Monster Hunter games (and despite what people say MH3 will likely sell close to, if not over a million) a mothership Tales game a Final Fantasy spin-off and a few smaller JRPGs. All this next to Nintendo's own games and Motion Plus.

There's no change in hell that Wii will be outsold by the HD twins this year. Not by far. Even if FFXIII actually releases this year, which is highly unlikely.

Musou Orochi Z comes out on PS3 the week after RE5.

i kinda agree with this. but you know the ps3 have the ff13 bundle demo after RE5 and i guess that will sell like hotcakes.
