Forums - Sales - Is the PS3 selling badly? Why do you think it is/isn't?

Lol! I love the fact that PS3 Fanboys think the Wii will stop selling or the PS3 will start selling anytime soon with any lasting effect.

PS3 is running out of games, 360 is doing those games better and the Wii has plenty on the way with overwhelming third developer support.

The real question here is how long with the PS3 Fanboys keep spinning stories of the PS3's impending success? How long before the reality sinks and the fans just give up? Will it eventually get to the point where fans claim the PS3's 10 year lifespan will garantee them more sales in the end?

P.S. N64 wasn't the market lead fifth gen.

it seems to me that most of you are trying to use ignorance as logic ps3 and 360 fans alike... ps3 isnt selling as it was expected to sale.. but that doesnt mean its selling poorly.. alot of people tend to think just because its not selling how it was perceived it was gonna sale that its selling poorly.. being able to keep even with the 360 shows that sony's console has alot of fight left in it.. lets say that ps3 gains 3 million on the 360 a year from now.. is that not an accomplishment ? as ive said before this console generation is gonna be different.. we've witnessed the wii overcome the 360 in 9 months.. all you can say is wow right there..

The systems which are in a similar position to the PS3 are the Gamecube, N64, Saturn and Dreamcast; this association comes from the fact that they have somewhat similar sales and are based off of established brands. These are systems that sold poorly at a time when the marekt was smaller thus the PS3 IS SELLING POORLY!

You can't spin Sony out of this position, the PS3 is selling at the rate where the last place console of most generations sells. This is being noticed and the PS3 will be sold to customers through the press as the biggest mistake in gaming history and as a massive flop; at the same time developers are starting to see it as the best way to lose a lot of money by developing games for it.

I've become more and more convinced as time goes on that 2007 will be the PS3's best year in terms of sales and things are going to get worse from here; in 2008 and 2009 all that will be announced will be multiplatform games and people are not going to spend the additional $150 to $200 to play games on a system because "it is the PS3"; in 2010 and 2011 those drought filled days of 2008 and 2009 will seem like the good ol' days as only multi-platform movie tie-ins and crapware are announced for the PS3.

The battle is over, Nintendo has both Microsoft and Sony in Check and Sony has their 12 year old inbred cousin with down's syndrome planning their next move.

I don't think it's selling well.
Why? Easy. Price.

As I said in another thread, the PS2 made a reasonably priced DVD player. The problem with blu ray is that it made a ridiculously priced gaming console. $300 was an accepted price for a new console release. Yet the PS2 sales really took off at the $200 price. Few people find $600 a reasonable price. Few people find $500 a reasonable price. Most potential buyers will not get the system for blu ray. They want it for good games. And few will spend more than $300 on any console for those games. To sell well you need to combine the right price with the right games. Both those things for Sony seem way too far down the line for sales to rebound anytime soon.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said.

Market leaders get arrogant, and then shoot themselves in the foot. Nintendo did it, now sony is doing it. Ps3 isn't going to make a comeback. At best, years down the road it may ovetake the 360 for 2nd place.

Claude gave the correct answer to this thread in one of the best posts ever written. Nothing more needed to be said.

Here is my wii theory..

Lets say the GC has a 40million install base.

Those 35million-40million want a wii(I didnt ps3 was my first ps console)

I don't know what are you trying to do, but you failed. The GC has sold at most 22 million, almost half what you've said...

And Wii is likely to pass this mark at the half 2008, what's an incredible mark.

PS3 is popular? O_o Not really. Especially compared to the Wii and maybe 360. I mean I know ONE person with a PS3 and he has a Wii and a 360 also and yet no one I know brags or even TALKS about the PS3. Wii on the other hand...

@Claude and Happy

You guys win. 'nuff said.

Yes it is popular, everybody knows what it is, and alot of people want one its just that they cant afford to waste 600dollars on one.
