Forums - Sony - Playstation: The Official Magazine doesn't even try to act objective.

Ok, guys.  I understand that there's likely a reason you would choose to work at a Playstation magazine--you like Playstation.  There's nothing wrong with that.  But to devote half of a remake's preview page to display just how much you hate that the original was only available on a rival's system?  Come on.

The article I speak of is page 26 of the February 2009 issue, a preview of Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.

Here's approxmately the first third of the article:

"The only bigger insult than having a favored movie franchise turned into a mediocre videogame (for this is what usually happens) is having it turned into a great game... for a system you don't currently own, or can't quite justify purchasing: There it sits, just outreach on an alien console, looking cool and cheerily giving you the finger.

When Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay first made planetfall, you had two choices as a PlayStation gamer: You could quietly avail yoursel of another gaming platform, or you could suck a rock.  It's enough to make a guy shave his head, adopt a gruff voice, and go out and extravagantly hurt somebody.

The next (some would say still greater) insult is The Port from the Ignominious Past: The (formerly exclusive) game in question finally arrives, dragged kicking and screaming, to your platform... a year later, laced with graphics and interface "quirks," plot-spoilered to hell and back, and--if you're really lucky--branded with the scarlet letters: Greatest Hits.  Insert "Riddick-cule of your xbox-owning friends" crack here."

The actual stuff about the game is roughly the same length as that.  What, the Playstation brand has never heard of an exclusive?  Give me a break.

I stopped reading what was then OPM because I stopped being a Playstation supporter for a time, and I decided to give them another shot a couple days ago.  They had their chance to win me back, and they failed, miserably.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Yeah. While it is a Playstation magazine that caters to people who love that kind of stuff.

I think they are pretty tough on their reviews. (mostly)

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Lol, that was funny.

4 ≈ One

Lol, give them a chance.

They are extremely objective on reviews. They are much more lenient on multiplats. They gave Uncharted 4/5, and Assassin's Creed 5/5.

Obviously, the dude who wrote is, really hated the fact that this game went exclusive, and he's not really ...uhm.... unclear in his expression of that opinion.

Other than that, he doesn't really take a swipe at the xbox. Just the fact that the game was an exclusive, which he didn't like. (admit it, many fans of a console prefer to have access to all games, and don't care if others don't have access to those games. So if a sony fan has access to game X and the xbox fan doesn't, usually the sony fan doesn't care. If the sony fan doesn't have access but wants the game, he will be annoyed. Natural response imho).

He just expressed his hate that it wasn't available for his console, which is understandable if he really wanted the game.

2 reviews don't show that they are lenient on multiplats, and I would score AC higher than Uncharted personally. AC was more unique to me.

Anyway, this is yet another anti thread based on overreaction. The guy didn't like a game going multiplat because he wanted to play the game and had to get another console to play it. So what? You pull 1 little quote and say the entire magazine is garbage. That sounds really familiar considering the threads we've seen lately in the Sony forum. I wish this crap would end.

Sounds like he was trying to be funny and cater to Sony fan angst at the same time. I'm surprised we haven't seen more of this with the ps3 losing exclusives, etc.

"Riddick-cule of your xbox-owning friends"

I enjoy a bad pun as much as anyone, but this is inexcusable!

To what console was riddick ported? I bought an xbox just to play that game... And okami... And shenmue... And oddworld strangers wrath... And Kung fu mayhem....
