However, This is not always a sign of death. Unplug all your cables to do with AV.

 

Plug them back in and switch it back on. Sometimes its a loose cable that causes these lights. We had loads of people at my work bringing 360s back when this happened and 9/10 it was the video cable not being in properly.

sorry for what happened to your 360 elite, like others have said it seems the 360 likes to be with nothing on it or around it, for better performce. also my ps3 i also have it with nothing around , with both systems giving off alot of heat. i wanted to make sure they stayed as cool as they possibly can. good luck though.

Once again, please inform me of when I said the 360 did not have hardware problems?  Since it does, there are precautions one needs to take.  That is what I was saying.

Merely stating that the RRoD could have possibly been avoided if he had done the thing that was quite obvious to do in order to try and prevent it.

I think he simply doesn't like you :D

Actually if you read your instruction manual it says not to place anything on or below it.  Atleast mine did.

Nice there goes a un-reliable Zephyr motherboard. Now when you send it in to Microsoft you will more than likely get a Jasper or Falcon. Those are reliable//I had mine Falcon 360 for about a year and some change//and no problems whatsoever.

Now it makes absolutely no since to put a cable box on top of a Xbox 360 knowing that it produces a big chunk of heat. Your cable box/360 and DVD player alone makes a huge nice load of heat. That is what caused it.

You do know that ventilation holes are supposed to be umm... ventilated? That goes for any console, otherwise shutdowns or hardware failure may occur.
