We’ve been having a lot of topics about advertising. The topics seem to center around the wii’s hopeful future with The Conduit and Madworld. Both games need to do well in hope to spark interest in other developers to produce better wii titles. So the question is how to advertise?

Traditionally its easy to think of commercials on TV. Few games are ever advertised due to cost of TV spots. Its unlikely SEGA will spend a great deal of money on TV ads. Both games are a gamble so would they chose to play it safe or go all out?

The next best options are magazine ad’s and the internet. We’ve seen both games having video’s showing off the strong points of the game. My wonder is though if these internet video’s are really worth the time and energy. I would say a great deal of core gamers know about both games.

Ok, so this was a poorly organized topic. My question to the community is. What is the best way to advertise these titles?  What will yield the best result to gain attention in both casual and hardcore sector?

My 2 cents. It’s a risk but maybe SEGA should invest in a few TV commercials. I believe the majority of gamers have an idea about Madworld and the Conduit but their choice of buying these game will result in what kind of score they are given by reviewers and other gamers.  The wii has been marketed to a large demographic and TV reaches many who would potentially buy these games if the knew about and got a little hyped by a commercial or two.  I don’t think SEGA should stop with the madword trailer or HVS with their video’s. The video’s  still offer people the ability to spread the news about these games.

Well, what does everyone else think?

I would love watch The Conduit commercials on my country!
Please Sega... please...

MY ZELDA COLLECTION

Spike, G4, adult swim, ESPN, and the like needs to be flooded with ads for these titles. This is generally what the core gamer watches and most successful games are also advertised here.

It's the best bet to capture the 360 and PS3 (that also have a Wii) gamer's attention.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Well there already is a Madworld trailer that's been floating around for a few days (I believe it's legit...).

If Sega plans on advertising Madworld on TV, I'm sure they'll do the same for The Conduit.

If they did release a commercial for Madworld would they do that censoring thing they did in that trailer?

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.

Melding that sports report style Madworld ad into the breaks within sports matches would be a good idea.

Hell, the commentators in the studio could try and make it feel "seamless"!

If conduit lacks split screen multiplayer, which I suspect it does, then it'll be alot harder to advertise on TV. You don't want to focus on the games visuals, you want to focus on the controls and people playing the game. A single player doesn't look as fun in those kind of ads.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Sell Madworld like a a blood sport tv show, thats the best way to convey the type of game it is while allowing censorship to a degree.

Conduit, my tip would be DO NOT mention the graphics, the special lighting, blah blah blah. Just the story and show great visuals and it should be appealing. DO mention awards and industry recognition. I think de Blob capitalized on this somewhat.

As for all these other games HOTD is great right now, theyre marketing it effectively to the core market, wait for the reviews.

Tenchu 4, well lets see its launching in US today right? Go and buy it.

Deadly Creatures, it will appeal aslong as there is advertising for mainstream aswell as core gamers. Not just online but tv.

Now clearly Sega could double or triple their ad time value by making 1 30 second spot (ad) that includes 2 or 3 games in it.

HOTD plus Madworld are a good match for this. Conduit not so much.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

A few tv spots and building up internet hype would be great. Maybe do a top ten ways to kill people and get the internet riled up over it.

They should advertise the Conduit hard. I don't know about madworld. I think its too violent for TV commercials, they'd have to show parts that don't involve chainsawing a guy's head off.
