Forums - Nintendo - My First Reaction to RE5

The Conduit is not the same kind of game. I don't just mean genre. I mean design philosophy. You can't use it to claim it wouldn't work on different types of games.

No. It had the same. It really did. I've played the GC, PS2, and Wii versions plenty of times. The PS2 version has lower color depth, lower polygon count, reduced lighting and sound, longer loading, and FMVs instead of in-game scenes because of that lower loading. It did not reduce the number of enemies. The trees an leaves in the first third were fewer, but not the enemies.

If by the same you mean that neither had a single zombie, then you are right.

RE4 on the GC could have more Ganados on screen at a time though, this most notable in the mercenaries mini-game.

Agreed. I would also like to notice Leon feels 'slower' on the PS2 version, or perhaps it was just some stupid frame rate issue.

It has the same. It's just more likely to cause slowdown, but you get the same ammount.

@ameratsu: How do you conclude that splitscreen wouldn't be possible on the Wii?

From the videos of RE5 that I've seen, there are sections that require a far draw distance, a large number of enemies on screen, as well as vehicles sections with a lot going on. Again, those sections would  probably largely work for a single player. For splitscreen, they would probably have to be modified, the zombie count might have to be reduced, the amount of fog would have to be turned up, or they'd have to be omitted altogether.

Do you think Resident Evil 4: Wii edition would work in splitscreen? I really don't think that would work (from strictly a capability perspective), so I most certainly don't think RE5 would work without omissions and modifcations that would most likely change the game for the worse. That, on top of the issues I mentioned above.

It can, because it's a Gamecube game running on a more powerful machine.

I still have my doubts, as I do about any hypothetical Wii version actually retaining everything from the x360/ps3 versions. Any RE5 Wii port would be a shell of its former self.

Does anyone here actually think we will see RE5 on the Wii? All this talk is great, but I'm curious to know if people think it's coming. I think it will forever remain a fanboy pipe dream.

Another Resident Evil game will surely come to the Wii. Whether it's RE5 or not I don't know, but from the technical perspective it doesn't look impossible for now.

Clearly you didn't play Rogue Squadron II or III. Those had a hell of a lot of enemies, with a huge draw distance. There wasn't a lot of character detail, but it does mean that this kind of game can be pulled off on the Wii with just reducing the graphics.

Yup, same thing here. Analog controls for Resident Evil sucks. :(

They made it spectacular on the 'Cube. I haven't played RE4 Wii. Is RE5 really that much worse control wise?

Keep in mind that RSII was a launch game as well.
