I never played an SRPG before, not even FF:tactics. VC was my first and everything about it was just awesome starting from the art style to the characters, the battle system, the story, the game is just epic. I've finished it twice back-to-back and still can't get enough.

Don't judge the game based on the demo. The demo is just a meaningless skirmish battle that doesn't do the game justice. Just get it and reward sega for their best game in years. You won't regret it.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Ok but what is it about. Only the battles, do you get to chose where you want to go and stuff? or is like a warcraft 2 campaing and you go level after level following a chain of events??

There is no free-roaming outside the missions. But on a mission map, you are free to go about your goal any way you like, although most of the times there will be only a couple of options for how the mission can be completed. Not that it feels like a limit, the enemy keeps you on your toes and there are some good options for doing what you want inside the battle. But regular free roaming? Nothing.

It is a very linear experience. Each battle leads to another, with a few side chapters that you can skip or play through at your leisure. The book presentation means that you can come back to any battle or cutscene you want after playing it, so it has alot of freedom in a linear storyline for what you want to play at any given moment.

The main thing that makes VC great to me is how all of the characters that you will use or see have a personality. In a game where you can use 40 or so different characters in your squad, it's quite the feat to make each of them unique and memorable.

The story is not the best ever, but it does deal with death, racism, and war in a very well done manner.

It's like a book and Warcraft style where u go to different places for each battle.  It is kinda of interesting how they do it, and if you see a cutscene you really like, u can watch it again by selecting it in the book mode.  The game is awesome, just buy it XD

THIS GAME ROX

1.) Art Style: Valkyria Chronicles takes the moving painting style of Okami to the next level. Games are tend to have too similar of an art direction currently and a game like VC is a breath of fresh air. The gritty look of games like Gears of War, Resistance, Call of Duty, etc. is way too over done.

2.) Story: War is often the back drop of RPGs and video games in general but rarely is it presented like in VC. The characters of VC aren't professional soldiers. They are average everyday people taking up arms to defend their homeland. Sure there are some veterans in your squad but you mostly see the story through the fresh eyes of Welkin, Alicia, and Isara.

3.)Character Development: Even the "generic" units of VC have their own stories. Via the personnel tab, as well as their potentials, you get a deeper insight into each units personality. The optional story pages/battles also do a great job of endearing you too your central characters Welkin, Isara, Alicia, Rosie, Largo, etc.

4.)Gameplay: The combination of real time and turnbased elements come together exceptionally well. It forces you to plan your movements a head of time like in other strategy RPGS but once you start to move your unit it becomes real time and you have to be conscious of your environment or you'll fall prey to enemy cover fire. Your current battlefield lacks cover? Use the Edelweiss as rolling cover. Also, as your soldier classes and individual units gain potentials, you are rewarded for taking the time to get know your characters. If one scout has a pollen allergy you don't take them to a grassy battlefield etc.

The demo was good, but my problem with the game is that the enemy is allowed to shoot at my moving character when it's my turn and vice versa. (I have no problem with a one-time counter attack)

I don't see the sense and think it's just stupid.
They should have made it like Advance Wars. Classic turn based.

The game is good nonetheless. I'll buy it, when it hits 30€
