Forums - Gaming - Wiimote for PS2 this Xmas

This, along with this OTHER RIP-OFF... Are two giant Nintendo-based lawsuits waiting to happen, and will cause Christmas Blues by tricking parents into buying these terrible rip-offs... Kinda Reminds me of the POP-Station and the NEO-DOUBLE-GAMES.

Well, it isn't Sony doing it so the latter 3 comments don't hold true. But also, since it isn't Sony doing it, it'll probably make #1 even more true.

I don't think this will do well enough to effect much, but if it becomes a well known bomb those last 3 points can effect sony. You only have to look at consumers who say things like "Nintendo Playstation" and "Sony Wii" etc... to see how consumers aren't really up to date on this.  If the info is passed on as "PS2 is getting lame motion controls..." then it automatically is Sony's fault.

Granted its BS but its not out of the realm of possibility.  I don't think anything will come of this to be completely honest, but we shall see I suppose.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Wait a second.

I have the option of paying 250 dollars to play Wii Sports or 30 pounds to play one of these on the PS2 I already own. Which one is someone going to buy?

Even if it flops horribly cause it's of terrible quality it will still steal some Wii sales by logic.

Make more people go to the Wii? How the hell do you think so?

Saying this is a guaranteed flop is rushing it just a little. The PS2 does have a huge install base and Wiis are in short supply. I don't even think most people know a quality game if it hit them on the head.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

^ But this'll get (like Happy said) less than 20 games and they'll be crappy.

Even if both of those are true they will still probably sell, especially now with the interest in motion controlled sports games because of the Wii. They are cashing in on Nintendo's idea on a console with a huge install base. I think this company are at least smart in taking an oportunity when they see one.

No idea how good the game or the peripherals will work but they will get at least some sales I am almost positive.

You know how sales trends go at the end of a generation, there are so many great cheap and/or used games, that only the creme de la creme can have any type of a successful sales run (I mean popularity, not necesarily quality).  This is 30 each game.  I don't see people paying 30 bucks for one WiiSports style title.  I don't think casuals buy the Wii just for Wii Sports/Wii Play, I think that they fully understand and expect to get more use out of the Wii than just those two games.

I think, 30 bucks for Wii Tennis by itself, even with extra modes, would feel like a rip off to most (hence the less than stellar sales of $50 tennis games).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I wonder...can they actually make these new controls work with other games? Like say god of war.. gran turismo and more? If so, and this can be added to the ps3 easily(usb ports) then thy might have something going for them.

Please don't anyone defend this third party company for trying to cash-in. I beg you. The idea was stupid to begin with, which is why Sony didn't do it themselves.

Some kids will get their Xmas ruined.
"Bohoho, mommy. I said a Wii, I wanted a Wii".

At least it won't be very many kids...

Sorry Hus, but this is a stupid idea that will bomb hard.

The way they are doing it probably.

IF they throw in a wii mote type thing controller, plastic controller addons, 5 games and sold that bundle for 59.99 it do well.

Pros:
PS2 game(s)

Cons:
Third party
Wiimote ripoff
Individual games
Costing 30GBP ($60!) each

Read the "Cons" as a whole sentence and you will understand why I nearly had a visceral reaction to this news article.

I agree that this isn't a garaunteed flop, but this could also very obviously stir more interest in the Wii.

First and foremost, the Wii is beginning to see copycats. On Sony consoles, no less. This gives purchasers the notion that Nintendo is leading and everyone else is following.

More importantly, this could just as easily create more interest in the Wii "hey, I like this style of control! I will buy a whole system based around this control scheme," as it could deter people "Okay, I don't like this control. Now that I've tried it a bit, I know that I do not want a Wii." I'd guess that more people would experience the former experience instead of the latter (based on the popularity of the Wii, clearly this style of control is extremely popular), but that's not my point regardless -- my point is that this could very easily increase the Wii's recognition.

Everyone is copying the Wii because it's doing so well. That's the message this sends, even to the untrained eye.
