Forums - Gaming - Pure Speculation - Why is PS3 version of TLR so late?

I say it's the same reason SO4 and ToV are 360 exclusives.

Moneyhatting.

Sure, there could be technical problems, but why would they take a YEAR to fix? And why would they release it on 360 with technical problems intact?

Why would they really? they didn't XD

I wonder how much they are expecting from ps3 version to sell.

A deal with Microsoft is all I can think of.

Why is the PS3 version so late?

1. This is the SaGa team's first game of this generation.

2. The PS3 is more difficult to develop for in general.

3. The game is on UE3 engine, which seems to have more difficulty on the PS3.

4. The lead producer of the game said that the 360 was easier develop for than the PS3 and he hoped that SE would make his teams next project on the 360 because of this.

Then why was the PC version also delayed? and the 360 version released with technical issues?

Unreal enginge. This game uses it right? Lots of early UE projects had troubles on PS3. Being this dev teams first UE game....

You get the picture.

Who cares if there's a superior PC version as well, and that's earlier? Oh, right - not everyone has a decent computer. Nevermind me then.

The PC version was announced well after the PS3 and 360 version. The PS3/360 version of The Last Remnant was announced in May of 2007.

The PC version wasn't announced until July of 2008.

Every quantifiable fact points to the PS3 being the reason that the PS3 version of TLR is late. The fact that the PC version was announced 14 months after the PS3 version and will be releasing first should cement that fact.

I think a big part of the problem could be the Unreal Engine doesn't suit JRPG's? It was developed with Western games in mind, FPS's, WRPG's, Racers etc. Put a JRPG which demands different system aspects and it causes problems? Hence why it was a technical mess on 360 and... non exsistent on the PS3.

However I think Microsoft money hatted to some extent on the timed exclusivity. I don't think Square-Enix would have published the game as the graphical mess it is unless they had other contracts and deadlines to stick to on top of their own, but hey, non of us really know.

I really don't 'get' Square Enix at the moment, hmm.
