With the current economy consumers will want to make their console last longer and the same is true for developers due to higher development costs.
So it's very likely that this gen will last longer than the last gen....

And honestly personally I am not looking forward to upgrading again.
I was very eager to go from the PS2 to the PS3 but I don't see any technological advance I would want on my console aside maybe from more RAM.......( I can't say I feel like PC games are getting so far ahead of console gaming, especially partially due to the fact that high budget PC only titles are slowly becoming rarer and rarer..)



PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

There will not be a PS4.

Atari Jaguar 2: Electric Boogaloo has been kept quiet up until now but an undisclosed source has let me lay eyes on it. Let me tell you, Nintendo and Microsoft might as well quit right now. Boogaloo is set to take over the world.

That is also when the Wii's internal calender ends. December 31, 2035. You can check it if you want. I'm not lying.

As someone pointed out too Xbox360 and PS3 could support motion control if they wanted without going to next gen.
All that is needed is a USB port and some firmware upgrade and both consoles are capable of that......

I dont even know if the Wii will have had a pricecut by 2010 let alone a new console, 2011 seems right for the 720, that would give it a full 6 years.



End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
