I don't think that this particular topic is all that controversial. We've seen the same sort of three-generation entry, dominance, and failure pattern several times now. The interesting thing will be whether or not Nintendo can leverage the increased network benefits of online functionality, increased dev costs, and backwards compatibility into a longer-lasting monopoly.

Wii = Just a Gamecube with internal motional controllers(they are delivered with every package), the controllers was also ment to be an add-on to GC.

What's so damn amazing about this is how they, with the held of the new controllers and a new sleek design managed to make the most horrible selling gaming console of last generation, in to the new best selling gaming console in history(so far).

It's like as if Sony just made a new PS2 instead of PS3 and made a guitar or whatever that was in the package and called it "Playstation Guitar". And it'd be the best selling console of this generation, even if it was a last-gen console. Acctually that wouldn't be the same thing of course because PS2 was the best selling on last generation while GC acctually was the worst. It's a cinderella story for GC.

But then, commenting on a "Wii 2". First question that comes to my mind is: "How long will Wii last?" Since as I've already covered, it's only a GC. How many years can an already 6 year old console survive on the marked? How long can it please the people? I was asking myself these same questions when I was getting a Wii, since I was afraid it'd be discontinued in 2 years because of a Wii 2 which would be current-gen graphics + Innovative controllers.

... and that's exactly what a Wii 2 should do, make a powerfull machine PLUS up-to-date graphics. If only Wii had that, there would be so much less crittics of it, and it'd sell EVEN better.

... too bad they didn't even try to make better graphics on the Wii. =(

I agree with Oraichu, I think the people buying the wii are mainly GC owners, that means a max out of 30 million sold????? Not really, but this is possible, I do think that most xbox 360/ps2 owners will convert to ps3, if and when ps3 releases HUGE games that make's 360 lineup look like crud(IF keyword).

LOL on my HDTV the Wii looks fine... many other's have all said the same thing. I've had a 360 at my house and wasn't blown away by it's graphics either. They looked like what I expect from my PC... but my PC was always faster then my last gen consoles and it never stopped me or anyone else from buying PS2 games. So this has been stated many times before... your just trolling.

It took 5 years for the Gamecube to sell 22 Million systems with the vast majority of those systems sold below $150 ... Most of the people who bought the Gamecube would not consider buying the Wii at its current "High" price

The fact of the matter is the Wii is being bought mostly by people who owned a Gamecube, XBox or PS2; the Wii will pass 30 Million by this time next year and will continue to sell at above Gamecube levels for the rest of the generation (probably pretty close to PS2 levels).

Back to the original point, I'm not sure whether the Wii is truely like the Playstation as much as the PS3 is really like a cross between the Neo Geo and Sega Saturn.

I don't care if Nintendo wins this round or not. What I do care about is that they take all their earnings from this gen and make a system that really pushes the boundries of what is capable in computing. The only problem I have with the Wii is all the games are only as good as PS2/Xbox games with the added bonus of motion. However motion is not the answer to all games, and when it comes to zelda, mario, smash bros, and mario kart, they just don't look to offer anything new besides the motion. I may be wrong and I hope Nintendo can prove me so. Until then I look at the Wii as hopfully a way for them to make money to really make a great product next gen.
