What WKC has proven is that square-enix had the right idea and jrpgs have to be released multiplatform.

Last time i checked, SO4 is still Xbox360 exclusive, and TLR still doesn't have a PS3 release date, if they want TLR to bomb on the PS3 like ES, they're on the right track...

Dont forget versus.

So WKC's day one sales > the first week sales of any other HD JRPG this gen? That's amazing! I doubt this game had a HUGE budget so it's already starting to make it's money back. Unless the game just BOMBS in the US and others, this seems to have been a really good move by Sony.

WKC seems to have a pretty big budget as far I can tell.  Look at those graphics.  If the game was low budget, I doubt the graphics would look THAT good.

The graphics aren't THAT good... It may be one of the best looking JRPG's so far this gen but that's not saying much when compared to games in general. I highly doubt the game was of a big budget, maybe compared to some of the smaller JRPGs but in the grand scheme of things I doubt that it was huge budget. Either way, Sony was the one paying the bills, they will be the one to lose money if true. But I don't hear all of you complaining this much about all the 360 exclusive JRPGs that have most likely lost Microsoft some money. Either way, none of us know the real budget of the game and it's foolish to make assumptions about it and then try to argue with it.

PS3 Trophies

Phantasy star zero bombed compared to the PSP version... well it seems that this and MH will hit Sonys portable for years to come ;)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Why are people downplaying these sales?

WTF is wrong with people? Seriously, after reading through this entire thread I am fairly certain that some of the people I thought were JRPG fans are nothing more than recent JRPG bandwagon fans who only hopped on because of the 360 grabbing JRPG support because in all honesty before we started hearing about these JRPGs nobody would take the time to mention them. Now these "fans" see a game sell better first day than any other recent HD JRPG this gen did first week and it is "decent".

Make up your minds people on what is good and what isn't. Please go back into the TLR, LO, ToV, BD threads and change "nice sales" to "sales are a joke" because this is what I have gotten out of this thread so far.

I hear "PS3 has a bigger install base" BLAH BLAH BLAH! Which console this generation has moved more consoles to JRPG fans with their recent release of 5-6+ JRPG's this year? I am probably overstating the amount but you get my point. So I don't care who has a bigger install base, who SHOULD have a bigger JRPG fanbase when shifted consoles due to constant JRPG releases come into play? Maybe I am in the minority, who knows, but I would think that a big named JRPG like Tales should sell MUCH better than a new IP like WKC, regardless of install base since that entire install base are not JRPG fans, although in the 360s case considering recent sales, a lot of its install base SHOULD be JRPG fans.

Sorry, I am just kind of annoyed at the "fake" JRPG fans on this site. If you take offense to this comment, then well, I guess you fit into my little group here. If you do not fit into this group, then take no offense, simple as that.

If my rant makes no sense for some reason, oh well, I am tired and at the same time just wished people would stop being such downers all the time.

Firstly you are assuming TLR doesn't have a release date because it is a timed exclusive. Whereas the far higher probability is that TLR is only a timed exclusive because they can't get it to run on the PS3. Look at the evidence, it's built on UE3 - an engine that time and time again we have heard from developers is far better suited to the 360 than PS3. It's performance on the 360 was rough at best - If the game was struggling on the 360 which is far easier to develop for with the engine imagine how it was on the PS3. My guess is TLR is only a timed exclusive because they needed to release it but the PS3 version simply wasn't finished. It's possible that after seeing the reviews from the west though that they may delay the PS3 version a bit more to try and smooth it out compared to the 360 version. However it still is not an exclusive.

SO4 is still 360 exclusive but that deal would have been made a long time ago and I imagine MS paid quite a bit for it. Likely it is only timed exclusivety anyway.

Going forward I would bet that unless Sony or MS are willing to pay out the nose for it that any rpgs will be multiplatform.

Ok, let's break this down:

1. Multiplatforms get the most money releasing them simultaneously, it's almost a law... Square is willing to release FF13 in both consoles simultaneously on the West to get the most of it, why didn't wait for TLR to be finished on the PS3?

2. The game is also going to PC, right? The Unreal Engine is easier to develop for Windows PCs than 360 and PS3, then WHY the PC version is also delayed?

@J-Man

Yeah, Versus XIII too, and also Dragon Quest X (but i don't really count this because of the platforms differences in controls and graphics, but if they're really serious about multiplatform agenda this should be multi as well)...

Hear hear, exactly my feelings on the matter.  If you can honestly talk about 360 JRPG sales in Japan as doing well and not give WKC the props (was going to use a better word but couldn't think of it) it deserves then you fit right in this group and need to stop calling yourself a JRPG fan.  If you'd like you can call yourself a 360 JRPG fan, but that's about it.

...

@ Torillian

We need to have a good JRPG discussion.

I am also picking up Valkyria Chronicles in an hour or so.

Seems great minds think alike.

If people here will just compare userbase then all 360 rpgs BOMB WW TOTAL SALES

no excuses such as jrpg is only for japan blah blah...

or

accept the fact that WKC just sold good on 1st day :P

I think the ones overhyping WKC now are 360 fanboys ^_^

Everyone has hyped WKC for awhile now. Did you leave the planet for a year or something? No one is saying the sales aren't good. I'm saying they aren't great and definitely should have been higher, even for a one day sale. If it has sales over 250K-300K it's first week, then I'll be more impressed. Even with just 2.6 million PS3 in Japan, FF XIII will sell 500K on day one. It should anyways.

The fact that Japan gamers even bought Xbox 360's is incredible. It's already doing better then the original Xbox. I was shocked when XBox 360's sold out in Aug this year in Japan. Even M$ didn't expect that to ever happen. It's no secret that most Japan gamers don't care for American game consoles. None of the older American made consoles ever sold well in Japan. The XBox 360 is the BEST selling American made console in Japan. I think the 3DO is the second best.
