It so good it's scary. 360...WOW. That $199 price point is killer.
PS3...keep hanging there. 2009 is all you once that price drops.

I'm certain now that the magic time for a price cut is right before Christmas.

I'm also fairly sure that Sony doesn't realize that, and instead will cut its prices next year in March, and then wait for 2010.

PS3 is getting a serious beating this time. Wii is stomping both the 360 and the PS3, that's insane. 800k is just insane.

I think the PS3 might be losing steam. Worldwide, the system seems to be lagging. It may because the price is still to high, 360 is putting up a strong offensive, or the system is topping off.

I think it may be either 1 or 3.
The other systems did well, and the PS2 did amazing. It defiantly has some legs. Despite the PS3's short comings, I'm sure Sony is quite proud of their littler console.

You missed a great oppertunity there.

When comparing companies' games division(hardware) you could have said:

Sony must be smiling!

Here's why:

Nintendo: Wii+DS= 803k+909k= 1712k

Sony: PS3+PS2+PSP= 198k+163K+254K = 615K

MS: X360= 477k

therefore, Sony is probably smililng!

Not as much as Nintendo though, obviously, they sold more than the other two combined.

Besides, on purely a hardware point of view, as PS3 is either breaking even or even losing money every console sold, AND they're tracking OK YoY I don't think SONY is too worried. the more PS3's sold than they expect, the more money they lose (on hardware, not software). In fact, they're probably patting themselves on the back right now because if they had given into pressure and lowered the price for the holidays, they would have lost more than the PSP and PS2 profits could help

Spankey you are correct sir. People seem to forget that Sony's gaming department isnt just PS3. Some people forget they have other departments besides gaming. I agree Sony is happy.

VGC has a 10% margin of error (which they often forget to mention), anything between 450-550k means their data's good.

These are pretty phenomenal results for Nintendo and MS, but quite a kick to Sony's nuts, too.
