Forums - Sony Discussion - I've given up on Sony taking 2nd place

You're shooting bullets in all the directions, I was just looking for a clear reason to put the Wii in another category. I take it from your latest post that you gave up on the "time spent playing" and "software sold ratio" angles, so your point is that Nintendo's and 3rd parties decisions put it in another category?

Show me a single declaration from Nintendo which says that hardcore gamers aren't targeted by the Wii. Show me something concrete which supports your statements.

"I think our two competitors will trade share between them, while we go off and grab share in a completely different way."

"Our focus is interactive game play, a whole new way to play, that puts fun back into this business. It allows everybody to pick up and play and isn't focused on the core gamer."

-Reginald Fils-Aime, President Nintendo of America

That doesn't say they don't target the core gamer, it just says they don't focus on the core gamer. I'd recommend looking at Wii's launch titles for a start. There's something for everyone, just as with present and announced titles for the future.

On the other hand, there are several  3rd parties which are practically not targeting the core gamer.

PS: I could post a dozen quotes from Reggie or otherwise saying they target the core gamer, but I'm guessing you know they exist so I won't bother.

I just think your debating the wrong person. I'm no Wii hater.  I just want more quality titles for it.  I have bought every Nintendo console to date, so I'm a huge fan of the company.

I also think that Nintendo needs to focus on their "quality guarantee".   I bought that game "M&M Kart Racing" and it has to be one of the trashiest games I have ever played on any console.  And that's just one example.

The concept of the Wii is completely fantastic, and I've loved that concept since day one (that's why I bought it).  I'm just upset that they haven't developed better titles.  I swear it reminds me of their N64 plan... create a new console that it great on paper, but doesn't equate to better games... because they aren't releasing them.

Considering the number one game I play on it is Super Mario Bros. 3, there is just something not right.  Yes, there have been a few pretty cool releases, but for a console that has saturated almost half of all game playing households, it's just not enough.  Nintendo needs to focus on sustainability... give us at least a title or two a month that are must buys.

I don't care if you're a Wii hater or not. I wanted to debate your statements, not you.

As for your last paragraph, I don't think it's possible for Nintendo to do that considering how long development cycles are these days.

Well. I'm not ready to give up on second place yet, especially considering that the PS3 is selling almost on par with last year even though it did not get a price cut and the economy is MUCH worse.

Anyway, the only thing I care about is that the PS3 sells enough consoles to ensure good third-party support, which, considering the fact that the PS3 has been within 6 million units of the 360 for the past year, shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

I seriously doubt it, and I also dont care... Im going to buy a PS3 for GoW3 and then sell it after I finish the game... handhelds are more then enough for me at the moment :P

Forget the X360 and PS3 caus the Wii is where it's at.
The 360 is crushing the PS3 due to lower price but they both sell at a loss.
It's the case of pure genius Wii can sell at a large profit Why is it because it has an intuitive interface, good framerates in all games and fun and easy to use.
While the HD consoles are still using a controller which is essentially a piece of history which belongs in a meuseum from the 1980's. - At least the X360 controller got a new paint job and bog but you can't avoid the fact it's still the same piece of junk.
The Mouse on my PC is easier faster and more accurate than those old thumbstick controllers for all FPS games - the only thing which can really try to match it is the Wii-mote.
So am actually really happy to see the PS360 getting thrashed by the Wii.
Just cause i own a PS3 does not mean i think it's good - fact is a console is worthless without good software and so far there has been nothing but sub-standard titles which would or DO play and work better on a good PC.

Nothing but substandard titles? First you put "PS3's number 1 fan" in your sig, and then you say the PS3 has only substandard titles?

I'm not even going to bother listing them. You know great games exist on all consoles.

The controller works better than the keyboard and mouse for every genre except RTS and FPS. Have you tried playing Assassin's Creed on PC? And I'm sure it would be equally bad on Wii. The Wiimote and Keyboard + Mouse are not designed for that sort of game.

Of course the mouse is better for FPS. I think 9/10 people accept that now. But FPS is not the only genre in existence, and I have played several FPS on consoles that work incredibly well, like Halo, CoD4 and BioShock. I could play them on PC, but I happen to prefer sitting on a comfortable chair with a controller in hand to PC gaming.

The Wii can sell at a profit because it appeals to casual gamers. I'm not saying it only appeals to casual gamers, but it has focused on them far more than the other consoles. The hardware is cheap and easy to manufacture. That is why it can sell at a profit.

It's fine if you prefer the Wii. I don't. A lot of people don't. People will not always agree with you. And please, change your sig.
