Forums - Sales - OTHERS NUMBERS IN : huge hurting on ps3

Last year's PS3 data around this time was 129k for the week. The problem isn't that the 360 is pummeling PS3 sales, it's that the PS3 has hardly done better than last year with a bigger library and lower price. Sales growth has got to pick up.

This is pretty much absolute proof that Microsoft is taking customers AWAY from Sony by having a much cheaper price range. Sony doesn't need to cut prices but they better start buying more ad space and making deals with retailers to sell special bundles.

what lower price.. at this time last week it was at the same price :p

If Sony counters with a price cut in March, what then? Are we back to where we were with the PS3 gaining ground on the 360 during 2009-2010 or will the 360 pick up enough momentum this holiday that it can't be caught?

It would be interesting if Microsoft were to watch for the PS3 price drop and see how things progress -- give Sony 6 months or so to gain ground, then introduce a "slim" 360 with a slide-in drive, built in 120 gig, built in wifi, etc., for $199.00 going into the holidays of 2009. That would put the 360 soundly cheaper than the PS3 for enough time to ride out the end of the generation with a comfortable lead before the next iteration is released... Can MS have a slim ready for Christmas 2009 at $199? If they did, and it had built in wifi, I'd buy another 360 on the spot...

Well, 99% of the people that buy a 360 now won't buy a PS3 anymore because there are so few exclusives and most of the exclusives have a counterpart on the other console. This should really be Sony's worry. Also they won't likely be able to match the 360's price, even with a pricecut. Killzone won't sell much consoles, since the hardcore Sony fanbase already owns a PS3. GT5 should have been here a year ago, cause that's the only exclusive I see that will sell consoles.

Agree with GT5.  Imagine if they pushed a bland, but expanded, GT5 at launch and made GT6 the iconic "full hd" experience with all the bells and whistles.  Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

They're too busy doing 240 fps 2160p tech demos of GT5 to finish the game. What ever happened to Japanese efficiency?

An early GT5 could have been a big bonus for the PS3 in Europe. Perhaps it can still be, but by the time it comes it will probably be too late.

I think Sony targetted their games for 2008/2009/2010 because I think they always assumed they would clean up 2007/2008 and the big games coming out would be the finishing blow rather than a forlorn hope at salvation.

Killzone 2 -> 2 Gears games in about the same time-frame, Two Call of Duty games and one and a half Halo games. Whilst it may even be a fantastic game, even better than Gears its coming too late to effect much change on the shooter market.

GT5 -> When exactly will this release? Late 2009, Early 2010? By the time it comes out there would have been a tonne of racer releases anyway and your hardcore racer fans may have been drawn off by other games in the meantime.

Tease.

sad days for my PS3, but then I never brought into the hype that the PS3 woul dof caught the Xbox 360.
I watched a kid ask his Mum for a PS3 to play Call of Duty 5, and the shop owner said to the parent,
WHY WASTE TWICE YOUR MONEY ON A PS3, WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THE 360 AT HALF THE PRICE?..
the kid wasn't bothered, he just wanted to play the game, and the Mother saved £140.
these are the times we are living when nobody cares about what Bluray or the Cell can do. they only want value for money. which I have to agree the PS3 isn't.

The PS3 is still good value for those who want an entertainment center with Blu-Ray. The problem is that most of the people who fall in this category probably already have a PS3 or a standalone Blu-Ray player.

Or are losing their houses....

==> I re-enter on this tread after 190 posts and I find this !

U do realize u are comparing :

1 week after a price cut (in 2007)
opposed to
1 year after the price cut (2008) and big offer on the other plateform (price cut + GoW2 bundle) + recession

....???

GT5 is targeted for late 09 I believe.  It was delayed AGAIN by them focusing on adding car damage and aquiring the proper liscensing.  I mean... its definately a step in the right directin for the game but They are still wasting valuable time.  When it comes down to it, people would rather play multiple fantastic games in the same series with average graphics than wait 3+ years for 1 grahpically amazing game and then wait 3 more years for a 2nd release.  They have the right idea, just a piss poor timeline.

Only barely...  and this is part of why the PS3 is failing to gain momentum.  Aracde + Magnavox Blu Ray = $330.00.  Yep, neither are "top of the line", but the point is the value proposition is eroding fast as Blu-Ray prices drop.

Most people don't compare the arcade price to the ps3, only MSFT does this in advertising.  Their arcade unit is directedto compete with the Wii and their pro and elite units are designed to compete with the 80gb/160gb ps3.  This entire topic has been beat to death but I think most can agree that both systems are comparably priced to one another with respect to the features each unit has.  One unit is just more flexible with pricing than the other and sparks interest in those who are looking for a cheapoption or do not have a HDTV for use with blu-ray.  like it or not, that is the situation.

the funny thing is can GT5 software sales because of its absence match or exceeding combined sales of for exampe:

GRID + DIRT2 + etc

i am not talking about Forza2 + PGR3 + PGR4 sales

and maybe becuase it is too late GT5 sales not even in Forza2 Category
PS3 user are unpredictable, look at LBP , R2 and socomm.
