Forums - Sales - LBP Sales Expectations (A little high, eh?)

As expected, the whole "People claiming 1-2 million week 1" argument is once again Crazzyman. In the 2nd link he provided Crazzyman was the only one with a ridiculous prediction.

As usual this week, 1 or sometimes 2-3 people = everyone.

Here is the breakdown.

Crazzyman expects 10M LTD.

Gearbox expects up to 20M LTD.

Now everyone expected 10-20M LTD.

Still with me? I thought so, I only mentioned 2 names.

Crazzyman expects 1M first week.

Gearbox expects god knows how much, lol.

Pick and choose maybe you can find another one somewhere.

Now everyone expected 1-2M first week.

Seems fair right?

@Captain Amazing

the Week 1 numbers on LBP's page are from the Week 18th Oct - 25th Oct....

now the game was "released" by gamespots earyl & walmarts apparently on 24th ...so it has 2 days of sales in that week.

then some stores released it on 27th Oct....n some on 29th Oct....

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I'm a bit confused by several posters who are claiming that week 1 has not come, or that my numbers I am posting (165k + 50k) are in fact week 0 numbers. According to wikipedia the release of the game was Monday Oct 27 and these numbers I have are from Sunday Oct 26 to Sunday Nov 2.

That is what I see from the numbers from last week. The week previous should have nothing to do with this conversation other than to perhaps add to the 165+50 numbers. The recall was on October 17 so it would have affected the "week 0" rather than the week 1 which has now been posted and where I am getting my numbers from.

Snaaaaaake, I believe that perhaps you should consider taking a short break from your computer and engaging others in socially positive atmospheres. I do not appreciate such a negative tone directed toward an opinion that is otherwise well based in facts. If you wish to dispute that information please feel free to read above about how I am deriving them and reply in a civil manner.

If you were a proper reader as you claim to be, you would be well informed of the fact that LBP was released a week early in America in some retail stores - that accounts for your sale figures of roughly 160k. If you go to Wikipedia for your facts then that alone would make alarm bells rell in most people's heads. The Week 1 sales of LBP in America will be known once the softwale sales for last week are posted. You add that number to week 0 sales and then you get week 1 sales. Not that hard to comprehend, is it?

Your argument is not based around facts, rather you use incorrect sources to try and win an argument when others have clearly proevn you wrong. Your ignorance astounds me. You are either incredibly stupid or a troll. I think it may be a bit of both, because a proper troll would atleast make an attempt to use correct data.

I find it funny how because crazzymann says something all ps3 fans think it.... I quess all wii fans expected the wii to get 60 mil consoles this year... they all fell soooo short.

Now for my up and coming thread.

Fable II, Too Human, Possibly Gears of War 2, Banjo and Kazooie, etc... expectations (A little high, eh?)

We all know people expected 1.5M first day for Fable II, 2.5M first day for Gears 2, 1.5M first day for Banjo, 1M first day for Too Human. Did these games fail to meet expectations?

*Note -

These predictions were made by one person on VGChartz, for all purposes of this thread this one person shall account for all members of VGChartz.

That's fair right?

Hey I have a simple solution to this "problem". Let's just wait about one week, and then we'll have sales data from the first week in Europe, and from the two first weeks in NA+Jap. Simple no?

And @ Captain Amazing - I think you are mistaken as the "real" first week data for NA is not up yet.

>>>LBP was officially released in the uk here yesterday 5th NOV

Okami - PS2 - 150k LTD

Shadow of the Colossus - PS2 - 730k LTD

Viva Pinata - 360 - 1.54M LTD

Okami and SotC sold more than that.

American numbers are week 0, Japanese numbers are week 1.  The American numbers are not 26th-2nd, they are 19th-25th.

Max,

1. Please see the first post in that thread, half way down through his numbers he claims 1.7 million "or more once including others".

2. I apologize as I did not see your corresponding numbers but I have changed my post to reflect that.

In regards to your claim about game sales where week 1 LBP is greater than them I politely must disagree. In week 1 LBP it is approximately 165k in the Americas and 50k in Japan which only trounces Okami - a well-known bomb. It actually comes quite close in comparison to the others once factoring in excessive marketing hype and social networking features.

Gab,

I think it's unlikely that a game of this nature will sell for an exceedingly long time. It's more likely that originality will be pushed to the side in favour of a small niche of game types which will oversaturate the available "maps" because of popularity (see online games focusing on very creative map creation tools such as Warcraft 3 - DoTA dominates this venue). Due to this, I believe that sales will peak in Summer 2009 and likely begin to peter off after that with very few sales by next Christmas of this game. The social networking aspect is likely to add up to six months to that longevity.

Yes of course it is hard to judge how long term sales of LBP will be. The user creation tools should keep the game alive for a long time though, and it will probably always be concidered as a "must-have" ps3 classic. LBP also seems like a game that could appeal to a more casual audience, customers that are likely to expand the ps3 userbase in the coming years.

And everyone, chill with the hate, the guy is new here and is trying to discuss something, ok so he's got the facts wrong but take it easy. I don't think hes just trying to annoy people.

Secondly this is a game that will have legs....

Uncharted Drakes fortune had exactly the same problem as LBP during the initial weeks with some stores breaking releases.

we can see it managed to get to 770K in NA with ONLY 35K sold in Week 1

now LBP is just below 400K LTD in NA in its first two weeks......whereas uncharted was at 90K....

so I hope you realize that you 2 Million MAX WW prediction sounds extremely silly imho.

Why do you keep comparing the two? The legs of a game DEPEND on the game. It doesnt matter how similar there numbers are right now that is no proof whatsoever.
