Forums - Sales Discussion - Is it just me or for all the Wii hype do the PS360 sell more software?

I see alot of stats and graphs... but do these numbers include the games that come with the console? If so....they shouldn't....

Excluding wii sports (from Sqrl's fiquers)

Current market total: 1,992,963,419
PS3+360: 1,281,633,284 (64%)
Wii: 711,330,135 (36%)

Weeks of Ownership

726,615,868
306,414,307
975,218,977
36.2% 15.3%

48.6

So taking out wii sports and not taking out wii sports does not change the figures that much.

If you took out all the bundles for the Ps3 and 360 the wii would would be ahead

TWO is time, bundled software would be accounted for in Software =P

In any case the problem here is that the Wii is the only console you can remove bundled software for.  360 and PS3 bundles add up to sizeable numbers as well but we don't have data for it because those bundles are inconsistent.

Besides we've had this discussion many many times on this website and like it or not, people buy the Wii for Wii Sports.  If they didn't the software wouldn't be bundled.  The same thing is true of PS3 and 360 bundles as well, you bundle Halo 3 because people will buy the console for Halo 3, you bundle MGS4 because people will buy the console for MGS4, and you bundle Wii Sports because people will buy the console for Wii Sports.

I'm glad you bolded (Is that a word??)  that for me.  If I had the CHOICE I wouldn't have gotten the Wii with Wii sports. Useless.  I may be in the minority.  But the minority does exist.

The problem I see is that any estimate of what should or shouldn't be allotted as copies of Wii Sports that would/wouldn't have been sold is exactly that, an estimate.  What is a fair estimate and according to whom is it fair?

I'm not fond of making estimates when its easy for someone (even myself) to sway the result towards a desired outcome.  It's an invitation for bias, and bias is not always consciously imposed.

In any case I think you would concede that given your choice to take the gameless Wii bundle you would then logically purchase another game in its place anyways.  And while in your case we could accurately deem that Wii Sports was unwanted and thus inflationary to the total software number since you would have purchased another piece of software anyways, there exists no way to measure such a thing for all Wii owners. Which, of course, means we would have to invent an estimate.

You know if they were to take Wii sports out of the software ratio for the wii it would be lower than the other two in europe..

You are talking about VGC sales yes.... which for Europe ioi admits the software totals are largely incomplete.

Even so I think you are probably right, though Wii and PS3 ratio's would still be close. But as Sqrlhas proved, taking out all of Wii Sports is an ignorant thing to do given that without a packed in game people would have bought a game when they bought it, whether than be Wii Sports or something else.

I still say that the Wii is a huge hardware sales success, but does not live up to its promise for controls.

As far as I know the 2 poster children for motion control our Wii Sports and RE4. Release game and what a GCN game with motion control added. This year has had 2 games of note (Mario Kart Wii and SSBB).

For Nintendo fans this is great because the Wii sells like nothing before it. For people that wanted to see gaming move forward I believe the Wii has not done anything.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Now I can see some of why this is, Wii is not getting any new releases. The same 2-3 titles sell over and over. Still, the point stands.

No, it doesn't, because the Wii still sold more software than either HD console in EU last week.

^Famous ringo is right. Those charts are just as useful as McCain winning the most number of counties in the US Presidential election.

McCain might have won so many counties, yet Obama wins the electoral college votes. Just think of those small country charts as US counties.
